Spring Brings Excitement to PHS Spring brought a burst of activity to Pottsboro High School. It was started off with a spring dance sponsored by the Junior class to raise money for the Prom. Three FHA girls, Kathy Allison, Renee Prindle, and Lisa Kennon attended the state convention held in San Antonio. They were recognized for achieving the Encounter III Level. They were accompanied by Mrs. Kay Manning and Mrs. Jeannie Guilloud. The coming of spring was also marked by the jitters'. Girls of all ages tried to learn and perfect cheers and chants for various tryouts. Varsity and Junior Varsity cheerleading squads were selected by 60 9b popularity and 40 95 skill. The members of both squads are as follows: Varsity: Glenda Thurston, captain, Becky Smithson, Tracy Fisher, Rhonda Thompson, Janet Garrison, and Leah Deaton. J .V.: Sadie Lewis, captain, Vickie Grace, Angela Bishop, Nancy Clark, Kelly Mitschele, and Angie Morris. While some students were shaking with the jitters, others were bubbling over with excitement. The Pottsboro band was included in this latter group. Members ventured to San Antonio to compete in contest and attend clinics to further their knowledge of band techniques. Members of the Yearbook and newspaper staffs attended the Interscholastic League Press Conference in Austin. PHS students won eight individual awards. Attending the convention were Ailsa Sublett, Pam Shelby, Renee Prindle, Mike Lewis, Debbie Edwards, Laurie Williams, Teresa Holbrook, Tammy McKeefer, Tonya Baker and Cheryl Wright. Mrs. Felecia Garvin and Mrs. Marie Wright accompanied the group. To finish out the year many organizations held banquets to recognize members and those who achieved outstanding accomplishments during the school year. Among the banquets held were the sports, publications, and drill team banquets. In essence spring brings a jumble of feelings from every individual. Some try to think of what classes they plan to take next year, others only think of the fun they'll enjoy in the summer or the dreaded summer job. Then there are still others who finally begin to realize this is the last spring they'll experience in high school and things will never be quite the same. A. Before heading to the Denison Public Library, Seniors, Sylvia Roy, Sandi Overman, Clay Jones, and Mike Cleveland, stop to eat and talk at Jack-in-the-Box. C. Senior Troy Hasten really gets into spring. D. Winners of the local FHA show are: Bottom row: Cindy Hightower, Lisa Kennon, and Sharon Willerd. Top row: Angela Dobbs, and Renee Prindle. E. The spring air really gets to the afternoon auto-mechanics class during their break time. F. Barney Frazier and Vickie Grace enjoy the Spring Dance along with other PHS students. G. Stairway to Heaven Chosen For Prom Theme t'Who are you going with? What does your dress look like? t'What color is your tux? Can we double with you'?', These questions and more are the epitome of Prom Fever . Tension mounted from Monday to Saturday as the countdown began. Those without dates tried frantically to find one in ways ranging from traditional to advertising, while those with dates waited patiently in their security. On the evening of Saturday, April 11, 1981, juniors and seniors arrived with great expectations. They were greeted by a theme of Stairway to Heaven carried out with two stairways, numerous stars, and a rainbow of colors. When the evening ended, all too soon, couples left on a high note of, Are you going to the lake? Jack-in-the- Box or McDonald's or would you rather go to Sambo's7 6'Let's go to Denny's'? My coursage is crushed! I have to have my tux back by Monday. A. Ailsa Sublett, Mike Windle, Cheryl Wright, Jeff Wortham, Diane Tucker, Gary Hawthorne, and Pam Shelby do the popular Cotton-Eyed Joe .
