Junior Wins District Medal Tim Brown, junior, placed fourth out of 86 contestants in regional golf competition at Par Country Club in Proctor. In first round action, Brown shot an 83 finishing the second day with an impressive 75. Brown qualified for the regional meet by shooting a 77 for first place in district competition. Senior Claude Woody Tignor shot a 91 in the district meet. Golf became an individual sport this year with only two people competing under the instruction of Coach Rick Jones. A. PJH Boy's Track Gains District Honors PJ H boys track teams battled against opponents to high jump and 3rd in the long jump. receive District honors at the Whitewright meet. The Scott Cox ranked 2nd in the 3200 meter run while 8th grade team, coached by Gary Clements, was named Mark Johnson placed 3rd in the pole vault competition. District Champions. Coach Rick Jones led the 7th graders to a third place finish. victory ribbon' Outstanding members of the 8th grade team at district included: Marc Finnecy, 3rd in the 100 meter and 2nd in the 200 meter dash. In the 400 meter dash were: Wallace Lewis, 2nd and Adam Rogers, 3rd. Marshall Shaw received 2nd place in the 800 meter dash. In the 1600 meter run, Gary Marquez won 1st, Eddie Gawrych placed 2nd and Marvin Steward ranked 3rd. Marquez also received 1st place in the 3200 meter run along with Duane Burns who placed 3rd. 5 The 7th grade also worked very hard to achieve their 3rd place position at district. ssggg Er. if ..gg: 5 A. Fifth Time Baseball Takes District Title Defending its 1980 quarter final championship, this year's Cardinal baseball team won its fifth consecutive district championship. Coached by Ron- nie Ray and Gary Clements, the Car- dinals started the year without many returning starters, including ace pitcher Dwayne Williams, because of the length of the basketball season. Before district play the Cardinals posted an 11-5 record and won the Pott- sboro tournament, beating Whitewright in the final, 11-1. District play opened on a sour note as the Cardinals lost 1-0 to Whitewright. After that the Cardinals turned it around as they won their remaining district games to become champs. Williams pitched seven of the eight district games, having three shut-outs and an ERA of .350. Williams went 10-3 on the season with a .78 ERA. Keith Bates pitched one district game giving up only three hits and one earned run. Bates was 4-1 on the season with a 1.90 ERA. Jamie Johnson went 2-2 on the season and John Lewis had a 1-0 record. Tom Ceci led the Cards at the plate with a .500 District Batting Average, and 27 RBI's on the season. Lewis, the only senior on this year's team averaged .478 in District and had 17 RBI's. Dewey Griffith had a .368 average for Pott- sboro and Keith Rice and Johnson each had .288 District Averages. The team season batting average was .282. A.
