health and physical education department the purpose of the health and physical education department is to develop and maintain student physical fitness and to further the development of fundamental skills, knowledges and apprecia- tions of physical education. skill in individual and team activities is emphasized. sophomores are permitted to elect physical edu- cation activities. dr. sam j. molnar, chairman of the department of health and physical education, came to Potsdam in 1947. he has now completed his twentieth year as director of Potsdamls intercol- legiate athletic program. dr. mol- nar previously coached both bas- ketball and baseball at potsdam. 21
