the mathematics department olliers certification in the elementary. early secondary and secondary curricu- lums. a major in these curriculums requires sixty-six credit hours of math. students can choose electives from advanced courses in theory, logic, algebra, ge- ometry, calculus and others. in the course of the year the math department spon- sors guest speakers who relate the practical application of math with theory or who show the derivation of a theory. Special facilities include a computer laboratory and a statistical laboratory. scholarships available to math majors are the clark- son memorial award for highest academic average and the frances leitzell scholarship for the best elementary education student teacher. dr. jerre f. kilroy has taught math at potsdam since 1960. he taught math at hudson valley technical insti- tute before coming to potsdam. c.
