To a man- whose stature is more than physical for about him there is an aura of quiet genius that commands respect and admirationg whose genuine and spontaneous interest not only in his students' lives and futures, but in life itself, is an impetus to all those who know and regard him as a responsive and empathic individualg whose verve for history is not a passive enthusiasm, confined to the pages of an inert text, but a vibrant interest in living history, a history which he himself can explore and verifyg whose wide travels throughout the midwest, delving into the relics of ancient Indian ruins, attest to the constant expansion of his intellectual horizonsg whose distinctive dedication not only to teaching but to those he teaches is a constant inspiration.
