S. with two dances given by the sophomore and junior classes respectively. On September 9, 1955, the sophomores, aided by the faculty, offered to the newcomers a round and square dance with get acquainted games, and refreshments. P, C. S. is very proud of this organization and the line record which it has achieved. Band The forty-piece band had a very successful year under the direction of Mr. George Ctippernull. It appeared at all of the home football games, and its lively music instilled spirit and enthusiasm both in the team and in the spectators. With the high- stepping twirlers the organization gave an elab- orate show in the halftime intermission at each of the games. Some of its members were honored hy being chosen to playin the New York State School Music Association band at Potsdam in November and in the All-State band at Albany in December. Seven members represented the chorus in the New York State sectional program held at Potsdam while one member attended the All-State conven- tion in Albany. The orchestra. directed by Mr. George Cupper- null, has been very active this year. liesides re- hearsing twice a week, it has played for many assemblies, adding much to the audience's enjoy- ment of the program. ln November several of its members played in the N. Y. S. S. Nl. A. orchestra at Potsdam. To become a member of this society a student must have an average of at least 85 per cent for two consecutive quar- ters and qualify in the fields of leadership, service, and character. This year the society sold book covers. gave S30 to the library for new books, and held a punch party for the graduates. their parents and friends. Council The Student Council, advised hy Mr. Lewkowitz, consists of two representatives from each homeroom. its officers were chosen 'J in a school-wide election in the spring of 1955. The council helongs to the Federation I . of Northern New York which meets regu- larly to orlier suggestions for the improve- ment of the local student councils. The Stu- dent Council provided noon-hour dancing and recreation and took charge of dances after the haskethall games.
