Beginning practice, Coach Harrington began to mold his 1947 football squad around 13 lettermen. Led by Captain Ken Morgan, the Sandstone Grid- sters stepped thru a tough schedule with a 4 and 3 record. Facing the Saranac Lake team the Orange and Blue triumphed 7-6. The Lakers scored first and held their 6-0 lead to within 20 seconds of the game's finish when K. Morgan threw a short pass to Jacot who scored. Corbett supplied the winning margin. The P.H.S. team was victorious winning a see-saw battle from Gouverneur 27-19. Potsdam's outstanding back D. McGee, raced into the end zone twice, while Jacot and K. Morgan scored one each. Corbett converted 3 times. P.H. S. tasted their first defeat at the hands of the Can- ton Golden Bears by a score of 7-13. Potsdam scored first with D. McGee carrying. Potsdam won 32 to 6 over Malone. McGee was high scorer again with 2 T.D.'s, as Gallagher, Jebo and Hodge scored one each. Returning to their home field the PHS gridders suffered their worst defeat of the season to Massena, 37-7. The next week-end found Pots- dam losing their first road game to Tupper Lake 7-0. The game was a scoreless contest until Tupper Lake scored on a series of passes in the closing seconds. In the final game, PHS downed Ogdensburg 27-13. Potsdam scored first with Gallagher carrying the ball 80 yards. In the third period K. Morgan scored only to have Ogdensburg put on a rally and score their 13 points, tying the ball game. Then on the first play of the fourth quarter a Gallagher to Hodge pass produced a score, then a quarterback sneak by Jacot and a conversion by Corbett settled the final score and a successful climax to the foot- ball season. In the final league standings Potsdam finished in a tie with Ogdensburg for third place. One of Potsdam's outstanding backs, Bunky Gal- lagher earned a berth on the All-Northern first team. Frank Corbett, tackle, who is a senior, was placed on the All-Northern second team.
