Professor A. K. VanScoy DEDICATIGN To A. K. VanScoy, head of the Depart- ment of Physics of Potomac State College, for a lifetime of service to education, the 1963 Catamount is dedicated. HA. K. , as Professor VanScoy is affec- tionately known, has contributed much to the growth of his adopted community, and to the training of young men and women who enter his classroom he has been a con- stant inspiration, and his students have con- sidered it a privilege to know him. A, K. is a superb teacher, understand- ing and capable, and his devotion to true scholarship has gained the respect and admiration of his fellow teachers and stu- dents. 24 5 if. A. K. Dr. Ernest E. Church PRESIDENT One hundred years ago, out of the distress and bitterness of civil strife, West Virginia became the thirty-fifth state to be admitted to the Union. Nineteen hundred sixty-three marks one hundred years of growth and development from infancy to the full stature of statehood! Prob- ably the greatest force in this development has been the contribution of our schools, colleges, and universities, for without an enlightened citizenry there cannot be a progressive and en- lightened state. Potomac State, as a member of the family of colleges, salutes West Virginia in this centennial year. Even as THE CATA- MOUNT strives for greater excellence each year, so the college pledges its best efforts in building a better and a brighter future for the proud We join the State of West Virginia in cele- brating its centennial. As citizens, we will be watching with interest a review of the events which have been responsible for its growth and development. We are assured that the leadership of well trained men and women has been re- sponsible for its status today. Many of these leaders are the product of our educational sys- tem. Potomac State College is proud of her many alumni who have been a part of this develop- ment. She, too, during the past sixty-one years, has grown from a preparatory school to the one and only full fledged junior college in West Virginia which is state supported.
