She pursues the hohhies of clesigning artistic program covers. reproduc- ing family coats of arms, antl working when time permits on artistic creations in pastels, water colors, and oils. Using the theme Sigma Prep School, Sigmas welcometl the freshman women with their rush party at the home of Mrs. Ray Coffman. Twenty-eight pledges were receivetl in Uctoher antl two in February. The sorority won hrst place in the Homecoming Paratle. Anne Dranc was crowned Miss Catamount and Campus Cover Girl. lflizaheth Suter reigned as queen of the Christ- mas Ball. At the annual Sigma Sweetheart Ball, Mary Patrone was Sigma Sweetheart. Anne Drane antl Ioyce Morliitt were R. U. T. C. sponsors. Ioyce Molliitt actetl as secretary of the Stutlent Cotincil antl secretary-treasurer of the Sophomore Class. The fraternity was granted a National Charter by the National College Panhellenic and has been designated Beta Chapter. A successful pledge party marked the beginning of the college year. Informal social events lor members and their guests took place during th: year, and a number of programs or general interest followed fraternity meetings. During the Christmas season, the annual Christmas Ball sponsored by Phi Sigma Nu was a traditional highlight of the college social season. At the Hall, Brother Robert McBride and Miss Elizabeth Suter. a member Ol the sister sorority, Sigma lota Chi, reigned as King and Queen ol' Wlinter. Phi Sigma Nu participates in all organized campus activities. A float built by the fraternity won an award during the Homecoming parade, the fraternity's volleyball teani was runner-up in intramural competition: the fraternity's nominee, Miss Anne Drane, a member of the sister sorority, was elected Miss Catamount for the Homecoming celebra- tion, and throughout the year members of the fraternity held active and important posi- tions as officers of campus organizations. The purposes of the organization are to provide opportunities for club members to become ac- quainted with leaders in the field of agriculture, to develop leadership, cooperation, and citizenshipg and promote recreational activities for the members of the organization. Membership in the organization is open to anyone majoring in oca 1 g ic, r ' V tionil Agriculture General Agriculture, Veterinary Science and Forestry. Each year the organization sponsors or participates in several activities. Some of the activities sponsored by the club this year are the following: Sponsored a chicken barbeque alft-er the homecoming football game, selection of an outstanding agriculture student for the year 59-60, guest speakers at some of the club meetings to provide the members with information concerning the dillerent lields of agricul- ture, a trip to the agriculture experiment station at Beltsville, Maryland, a reception lor Dr. Smith, a Christmas party for the Agriculture Club and the Home Economics Club, and sponsorship of the Regional FFA Parliamentary Procedure, Creed, and Public Spfaking contests.
