The aims of the sorority are to promote scholarship, to stimulate school spirit, and to enrich and broaden friendship. In October a rush party was held at the Upper Potomac Shrine Club. During the year the Gammas co-sponsored two dances, the Harvest Swing and the Spring Formal, with their brother fraternity, Theta Sigma Chi. Honors bestowed upon the sorority are as follows: ROTC sponsors, Darley Sue Broome and Margaret Frey, Queen of the Harvest Swing, Joan Guireg Cam- pus Cover Girl, Eleanor Dickeyg Mineral Daily Calendar Girl, Joan Guire. The sorority sponsored bake sales in the dormitories and sent a basket of food to a needy family. The climax of the year was the annual spring banquet held in honor of the departing sophomores, which is given jointly by the brother fraternity, Theta Sigma Chi, and the annual picnic. Organized in 1923 to promote scholarship and campus citi- zenship, it strives to live up to the ideals of its founders. It is still a local frater- nity with its own constitution, ritual, insignia, and traditions. Certain functions of the school year are associated with Sigma Phi Omega. As the society draws its membership from all campus groups, so it is proper that it should sponsor the two convocations honoring Potomac State's organizations. This year at the KNOW YOUR ORGANIZATIONS Convocation, held shortly after the opening of the college year, Sigma Phi Omega presented the roster of all campus organizations to the freshmen and described the history and objectives of each group. In the spring it sponsored the annual RECOGNITION DAY Con- vocation, where honor was bestowed upon leadership and achievement in every field of college life. The formal initiation of new members and the banquet in their honor, attended by faculty and actives, hold an important place on the col- lege calendar. At the banquet this year. Sigma Phi Omega was honored to present as guest speaker the new president of West Virginia University, Dr. Elvis J.
