VVe hope that the record which you have written will cn- rich your lives. Your return next year is being anticipated with pleasure. KIRKLAND S. McKEE H We Honor Mr. Leonard Withers Mr. Leonard G. Withe1's, head of the Music Department, has served the college and community loyally and without stint since 1940. His role as instructor for private piano lessons, classroom lectures in theory, and director of Potomac Singers has given him a Wide audience that extends throughout the northern half of West Virginia. Mr. Witlie1's has appeared in concerts sponsored by the Keyser VVO- man's Club and has delighted audiences as a member of a two-piano team. He has heeded the call to serve as choir director of Trinity Lutheran Church. ln appreciation for his countless hours of instruction, his understand- ing patience, and insistence on high standards of performance, the staff affectionately dedicates the 1958 CATAMOUNT to Mr. Leonard G. In 1947 Theta Sigma Chi was granted a national charter by the National College Panhellenic and was designated as Alpha Chapter. The fraternity promotes scholarship, character. fellowship, school spirit and cooperation. The fraternity sponsored the annual Miss Catamount contest and crowned Miss Wilma Shields, of Romney, NVest Virginia, as Miss Catamount XIX. The fraternity float won the best Greek-letter award. The college was presented another plaque for the Hag pole hy the fraternity. Two dances, a dinner dance, and annual spring picnic are co-sponsored hy the Theta Sigma Chi Fraternity and their sister sorority. In May, the Council cooperated with the Physical Education Department in the May Day Fete, which culminated in the May Queen's Ball. Membership is open to all girls interested in home economics. The club offers opportunity for each member to develop socially by being hostess at various functions and participating in other club activities. The Home Economics Club sold mums during Homecoming weekend: they shared the responsibility of a Homecoming Hoat with the Agriculture Club. They also sold refreshments at the game. The organization assisted with the preparation and serving of the Parents' Day meal. Members of the club participated in the program dealing with fashion for thc Piedmont and Keyser VVomen's Clubs. The club sponsored an open house for all friends and families of girls and women interested in Home Economics. Drill Teclm Roth Military Honorary Society sponsors the Drill Team, a Volunteer organization whose members are called upon to drill at times other than normal class hours. The first call for recruits was issued October '30, 1957. The purpose of the Drill Team is to dex elop a high degree of proficiency in all normal and routine movements of the manual of arms and foot movements common to 'the average cadet, plus the mastery of the in- tricate, complicated and unusual handling of the rifle with accompanying footwork. Sgt. Francis Birnley is ROTC faculty advisor and drillmaster. On November 9. 1957. the cadets presented a ceremonial drill at half-time of Par- ents' Day football game. On November ll, 1957, the organization provided a firing squad of ten men under the command of Cadet Captain Byron Athey, as part of the Annual Veterans Day Program, which included David Black, Berlin Collett, Paul Cook, James Citiin. William Mankins, .Ion Painter, John Riley, and Wlilliam Sheppard. On March 22, 1538, the group furnished a Queen's Honor Guard for the Queen of the Annual Military Dall, presenting a ceremonial drill with accompanying rifle movements, the high point of the demonstration heing the execution of the Queen Anne Salute. On April 29. 1958, the Drill Team performed as a special feature at the annual formal inspection of the ROTC unit.
