Tennessee, as an honor society, it has hecome the largest social organization. This sorority has hecome the largest iunior college sorority in the United States and stresses the importance of scholastic achievement and fellowship, thus carrying on the spirit and ideals of the Hrst chapter. As a result of an informal Hobo Party held during Rush Week at the Blue lay, twenty pledges were initiated in March. Following a campus-wide election, Sue Thayer reigned as Miss Catamount XVll during the Homecoming festivities in October. Selected by the faculty to represent Potomac State College at the Apple Blossom Festival was Miss Io Ann Freeland. ln February, Miss lean Lough was chosen as Sophomore Belle by vote of the student body and also selected as Campus Cover Girl. Mrs. I. Clark Bright entertained the members with a Christmas Party at her home. Valentine and Easter baskets were contributed to needy families in this area. Sleepy's Chateau was chosen for the Center dance sponsored by the sorority. VVith their brother fraternity, Phi Kappa Omega, the sorority co-sponsored the annual Easter Ball, the theme of which was an elaboration of the lyrics of Easter Parade. During the year the Cammas co-sponsored two dances, the Harvest Swing and the Spring Formal with their hrother fraternity, Theta Sigma Chi. X X' s S Q s . gs btuhent uuntil The governing organization of the student hody of Potomac State College is the Student Council, whose major obiectives are directing student activities and promoting school spirit, During Freshman VVeek, the Council assisted in the orientation program for tthe incoming students: two weeks later the group helped to organize the freshman class, selected freshman rules, and supervised their enforcement through the Kangaroo Court. The Council supervised the selection of cheerleaders, held thuses, and sold programs lor the foothall games. Un Uctoher 22, the Student Council sponsored one of the most gala arliairs on the campus, the annual Homecoming Ball. honoring Miss Sue Thayer as Miss Catamount XVII. In May, the Council cooperated with the Physical Education Department in the Xlay Day Fete, which culminated in the May Queens Ball. Upon recommendation of the Athletic Department, the Council present-ed letters and sweaters to athletes. The Council sponsored a Student Center dance in the fall and a campuspwide lund drive in March on hehalf of World University Service. The purpose of the organization is to acquaint the students with the different fields of engineering. During the fall and winter months films are shown weekly, and prominent engineers from nearby industries are invited to give lectures to the group at monthly meetings held in the auditorium of Science Hall. Informal chats with these practicing engineers take place at the end of the meetings. In the spring field trips are taken to nearby industries to produce a satisfactory sequence to the professional atmosphere surrounding this important phase of a student engineers college life.
