The Folio Hook Club. which she sponsors, bas always been popular with students and liaculty. Missouri, in IUUI, and is the oldest national junior college sorority ui the National College l'an-Hellenic. The aims of the sorority are to promote scholarship. to stimulate school spirit, and to enrich and hroaden friendship. Our inlormal Pirate rush party was held in Octoher at the home of Mary Mac Bess. The Gammas co-sponsored two dances, the Harvest Ball and the Spring Formal, with their hrother fraternity, Theta Sigma Chi. The sorority also collected magazines for the people in the hospital and made up a hasket for a needy family carrying out the Christmas Spirit. XVe have had various social functions which proved to he most successful. Serving on the May Court from this sorority will he Helen Yoder. The Gamma Lamp pin to he worn during the IQQZ-IQSS term was awarded to Ieanne Ludwig, who had the highest average among the pledges last vear. During Freshman VVeek the Council assisted in the orientation program for the incoming students: two weeks later the group helped to organize the freshman class. selected freshman rules, and supervised their enforcement through the Kangaroo Court, The Council supervised the selection of cheerleaders, held thuses, and sold programs for the football games. On October 25 the Student Council sponsored one of the most gala affairs on th-e campus, the annual Homecoming Ball, honoring Miss Dolly Kimble as Miss Catamount XIV. In May the Council cooperated with the Physical Education Department in the May Day Fete, which culminated in the May Queens Ball. Upon recommendation of the Athletic Department, the Council presented letters and sweaters to athletes. Potomoc: Stote Delooters The Potomac State Debaters Club was organized this year under the leadership ot Edward Gobel, president, and Mr. I. Kenna Burke, faculty advisor. The question for debate was Resolved: That the Congress of the United States should enact a compulsory Fair Employment Practices Act. Teams were organized on both the affirmative and negative side. The members of these teams were: Affirmative-Iohn Bosley, Iames Gainer. and Negative-Edward Gobel, Daniel Sharpless. The teams were organized in early November and spent the remainder of the first semester in research and preliminary investigation of the question. The Debaters appeared before the Keyser Woman's Club and the Presbyterian Men's Club of Keyser. Due to the inability of all the members to attend the College Debate Tournament, the Debaters did not enter the tournament this year. Meet- ings are held twice monthly in the College Auditorium. A program committee appointed for each meeting arranges such entertainment as skits, one-act plays, readings, make-up demonstrations, and dramatic reviews. The club's lirst maior activity was the presentation of two one-act plays entitled Submerged and The Professor Roarsf' on Thursday, lanuary 15, in the College Auditorium. A project sponsored by the Pusquino stall is the publication of the annual Student-Faculty Directory. Social highlight of the year for the stafif is the annual Press Banquet, during which an outstanding journalist .addresses the group. This year's banquet is to be at the Ali Chan Shrine Country Club, Cumberland. The Pasquino is affiliated with the West Virginia lntercollegiate Press Association. VVithers, experienced another interesting year of concert appearances betore the student body, local churches and clubs, and betore litteen high schools in VVest Virginia and Maryland. The first program was at the annual Christmas convocation when the Singers oltered a cantata, The Bfrffz of fiflfliil, with an attractive candle-light setting. ln the early spring the Glee Club sang for the Religious Emphasis XVeeli meetings. T l Football Following in the footsteps of great Potomac State football teams ol the past. the io52-53 Catamounts roared through a rough schedule, under the masterful coaching ol' Head Coach Dana Lough. to post a better than average record of four wins, two losses. and one tie. The Catamounts with a speedy backlield, and a big line, gave a creditable account for themselves despite injuries to several key players during the season which undoubtedly weakened the team. Potomac State 25, Bainbridge Naval Academy 12 Potomac State opened the season against Bainbridge. Ed Egan scored Potomac Stat-e's lirst touchdown by returning an intercepted pass Bo yards to pay dirt. A few minutes later. an Anderson to Totten pass-play covered gi yards to the Navy 7-yard line. Danny Rose plunged over right tackle for the score. lohn Kane burst through center for a 57-yard sprint and Fred Lee convert-ed. Egan intercepted a Navy pass and went S2 yards for the final Catamount score. Bainbridge scored all their points in the linal period. Potomac State 12, Newport News Tech 7 Potomac State met Newport Tech in their lirst road game. The Catamounts drove 53 yards to the one-yard line early in the game. Niedbala plunged over for the score. Bob Lee set up the final T. D. by recovering a Tech fumble. Rose scored on a play around right end. Both attempted conversions were blocked. Potomac State 19, Salem 12 The Gatamounts iourneyed to Bridgeport to post a very costly third win. Three key State men were iniured. Dan Rose dashed 55 yards for the first T. D. Salem then tied the game tip at 6-6. Baird put State back in the lead to stay by going over from the one-yard line to end a 63-yard march. Poe widened the lead by bulling over from the three-yard line late in the linal period. Salem scored to draw within seven points ol' State.
