The Yearbook Staff is pleased to dedicate THE CATAMOUNT, VOLUME XI, to Mr. Er- vin L. Dayton. e f 'S K-nun.. Dr: Ernest E: Church 'The Presidenlfs Message There is an adage that cliarat-ter is what we are. reputation is what people say we are. There is inueh truth in this hoinespun saying, and it is also a statement of truth that L'lllllALll'lt'l' is a quality much to he de- sired, a quality that must Ire possessed. This is true ot' individuals and it is true of institutions. The character of an institution is often refleeted in its publications, in its student publications no less than in its more formal statements. Through the years The Catamount has presented the non-academic life of the campus. It has given it pictorial and graphic aeeount of the in- dividuals and organizations that have been developing a Potomac State School gradually expanding in intluenee and usefulness. We commend The Cutamount for this eontrihution and hope that its service will be continued each year. Our thanks are due and are glad- ly given to the Stall' and sponsors ot' the ISHS! Catamount. The highlight of the first semester was participating in the Christmas program with choral groups from the various Keyser churches. The band looks forward to more playing opportunities in the second semester. A letter award of the band's own design is given to band mem- bers upon the completion of two and one-half semesters of mem- bership. This is contingent upon a passable record of attendance which is in accordance with the band's constitution. One hour of credit is also granted. The band hopes to see more students next year who are in- terested in band playing come to Potomac State from the various out.- lying high schools. Daniel Habeeb and Robert Halbritter chose to represent the affirmative side. while John Gentile and Patrick Mankins chose to uphold the negative aspect. Considerable improvement had been shown by both squads before their first appearance in March before the Presbyterian church group.
