Horse Lough in his thirteenth season with a 7 to O victory over VVest Virginia Tech in the final game on Stayman Field. Streaming past seven rivals, tying one, and losing to a non-conference foe, the Loughmen tallied 109 points to their opponents' 40. With George XValley leading States stalwart line and Joe Stanislawczyk doing most of the scoring, the Catamounts won possession of both the West Vir- ginia Intercollegiate Football Conference and Eastern Panhandle titles. Potomac State 8, Concord 0 With the experience ul' hut one game, the Catamounts met the strong Concord Mountain Lions rn Stayman Field and chalked up an S-0 triumph. Potomac State took a 2-0 lead in the third quarter on an autcmatic safety and Joe Stanislawczyk galloped 32 yards for the clinching touchdown in the final period. Potomac State 31, Morris Harvey 7 Unleasing a powerful second half attack, both on the ground and in the air, Potomac State routed the Morris Harvey Golden Eagles Sl-7 at Charleston, W. Va. Charles Ruyak scored the first touchdown in the second quarter from the two yard line. .Iclm Peters scored from the two yard ribbcn and Lou Bonato raced 30 yards for another six-pointer in the third quarter. The barrage was completed in the final duarter when Stan Szafran barreled over from the four and Halph t'Meatball liasilio intercepted a M-I-I pass and legged it 25 yards to pay dirt, Szafran booted the lone extra point following lg3onato's score, Potomac State 16, Shepherd 0 . The Shepheid Rams were added to the Cats' list of victims, lfi-ll. in a home- ccming affair at Shepherdstown, W. Va. Potomac State 7, Davis-Elkins 0 Potomac State celebrated its Hth homecoming with a 7-0 victory over stubborn Davis-Elkins Senators on Stayman Field. Charles Ruyak scored from the six-inch line early in the second quarter and Stan Szafran tacked on the extra point from placement. Potomac State 26, Salem 0 Rolling to their fifth consecutive Victory, the Potomac- State Catamountg sg-ored three times in the second half to defeat the Salem Tigers, its-0. on Stayman Field. Stanislawczyk scoi ed first in the second quarter from the four yard line, then tallied again with a six-yard ,iaunt in the third quarter. I-toy Ashcraft intercepted .gi Salem lass and ro-mped 215 yards for the third Cat score minutes later and Brooks Harris added the final T, D. in the fouith period from three yards out. Stan Sifafran kicked two extra points. Potomac State 1. Glenville 0 E Glenville's Pioneers halted the five game Catamount winning streak when they tied Potomac State 7-7 on a blocked punt in the final quarter at Glenville, W. Ya. Joe Stanislawczyk put State into a 7-0 lead in the third quarter when he plunged t-ver from the four and Svcafran added the point. The Pioneers blocked and recovered a State punt on the Catamount four yard line late in the fourth quarter to set up their tying score. Potomac State was awarded the game when a Glenville player was declared ineligible. California State 26, Potomac State 6 Going cutside the conference for the first and only time during the season. the Catamounts fell before a fast moving California State team, 243-ti. in a driving rain. Charles Ruyak recovered a California fumble in the Vulcan end zone in the final quarter for the lone Cat score while the Pennsylvanians tallied on runs of SO, 73 and G0 yards and a 50-yard aerial. Potomac State 7, West Virginia Tech 0 Playing their best game of the season, a fast charging Potomac State line held the VVest Virginia Tech Golden Bears to a net 322 yards rushing as the Catamounts chalked up a 7-0 triumph on the final day of the season. Joe Stanislawczyk climaxed his career at State by scoring on an eight-yard gallop and Stan Szafran tacked on the extra point in the second quarter. The victory gave State its first undefeated conference season in 27 years and the 1947 team became the third in Potomac history to lose only one game during the regular season. The Cats weie given consideration towards playing in the Little Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. but were not chosen in the final balloting.
