WHGCQ 7 S David 72u2u.m November l, 1943. Deal Diafztlz To TX5 David G. Nuzum, who, before his induction into the Ulnited States Army, was head of the English department of Potomac State School, we dedicate the 1944 Catamount. His activities and ideas have been missed not only by the Catamount staff but by Sigma Phi Omega, the Folio Book Club, and the Student Council, to all of which he gave unstintingly of time and effort. May this annual be a tribute to the fine spirit of Mr. Nuzum, who has been an inspiration to the success of this and the preceding Catamounfs. The 1944 Catamount

tesibenfs essage Every institution, be it family, college or nation, should develop some traditions. Certain symbols reflect the character of the institution, just as dis- tinguishing and distinctive qualities picture personality. Such a tradition on our campus is The Cutamount. It gathers its annual harvest of personalities and organizations, and then carefully winnowing the grain from the chaff, it preserves for us the significant personalities and organizations that have per- formed upon the college stage. Just now we are confronted by the grim and stark realities of war. In this all out effort many normal activities have been set aside. Only the essentials have been retained. There has been no hesitancy in discarding anything Whose real worth could be questioned. And by these standards The Catamount has been maintained, a real tribute to the important place it has assumed in our minds and hearts. To the sponsor of The Caramount in recent years, and at the beginning of this college year, who has joined the long list of Potomac State's sons and daughters in uniform, to his Worthy successor. to a loyal hardworking editorial staff, and to a fine cooperative student body, we offer our congratulations and our thanks. You have been superb in your devotion to this indispensable insti- tution, this noble tradition-The Catamount. E. E. CHURCH, President. The 1944 Catamount
