The district was composed of Pawnee, Stockdale, Sutherland Springs, Smily, Jour- danton, Lavernia, Ilixon, and Poth. •'ith a small inexperienced squad. Coach J. W. Lane welded together a light but powerful team which held a good record with 5 wins and 2 loces. The record for the year is as follows? Jourdanton Smily Pawned ttockcale Ilixon Lavernia Sutherland Sprin Total Opponents BASKETBALL The Poth Pirates, defending champions of the 1945 District Crown, had to be content with the runner up position in their 1946 campaign. After having a very progressive year, the Pirates were defeated by the Yorktown Bobcats in the finals of the district meet at Pettus. The years record with Yorktown ..as I win and 3 losses, 2 wins over Stock- dale, Lavernia and Sutherland Springs each while losing one to Sutherland Springs. The Pirates were defeated twice by Pettus and once by Smily and Victoria. The Pirates held decisions over Pettus, Goliad, and Pawnee. The Pirates entered three- tournaments during the year; at Karnes City, Poth, and Pettus. At Karnes City, The Pettus Eagles defeated the Pirates in the Consolation final 23 to 17. In the Poth Tournament, the Smiley team copped a 30 to 27 de- cision over the Pirates in the Semi-flna]s. The Pirates then defeated Sutherland Springs in the final for third place. The Pirates suffered their only defeat of the District Tournament when they bowed to Yorktown in the final, 23 to 17. Total points for the year are as follows: Poth-367 Opponents-355 Record for the 1946 season is as follows: Won 10 Lost 8 • HI Girls Pep Squad The Poth Girls Pep Squad of 1945 was an outstanding feature and attraction at all football games. Sponsored by Mrs. Myrtle Robuck, the squad was present at all seven of the ames played by the Pirates. Led by I.aogeno Crts, Marilyn Flieller, and Eetty Jo Pennington, the rirls gave a fine account of themsolves by adding color and spirit to the games. The singing of Pirates Forever before most of the ramea did much to pull the Pirates over many a tough spot. The formation presented by the girls at half was highly praised by all prosent. The girls defeated Stockdale, Floresville, and Kosciusko in that order. Under the instructions of Mr. J. W. Lane, the girls highly represented Poth Ki h in all its games. X-XJhSs V 4 As I was glancing through the Social Register of 1956, I ran across several familiar names. The first v.as that of Bertha Bau- mann. The register stated that she is now a stenographer at a local business firm. Ogden Schulze is now a very successful farmer. He owns the largest farm in Texas and the only crop he raises on it is corn. The next name I saw was that of Edward Vincik. He is now a barber in his own little barber shop. Dorothy Schmidt is now married. Her new name is Mrs. Jerry Polasek. It seems as If she is doing very well as a housewife. I found that Paul Traeger is now a wealthy cattleman on a very large ranch. He has great numbers of prize winning cattle, including Dynamite Dan’s great grandson. Doris Eckel has become a Power's model, and Is very success- ful at it. A talent scout had found her while she was sun-bathing in her back yard. Charles Uhlig has become a great politician. He ran for gov- ernor this year and won the election. Jeanette Eckel is now a movie star. She has been playing op- osite Rodd Me Dowal, the great lover. Marilyn Flieller has won world fame for her novels. She is really quite an author. Gilford Reinhard has joined the circus as a trapeze artist. He hasn't broken his neck yet either. Mary Ann Sohr is now Superintendent of Nurses at the Santa Rosa Hospital in San Antonio. Melvin Flieller has just divorced his fifth wife to remarry r.is third one. e wish him luck, and hooe he doesn't go bankruDt paying alimony. Margie Sohr has become what we least expected, a Doctor of Medicine. We are very proud of her accomplishments. Ray Jiral Is the new swooner crooner of 1956, and all the girls are going wild over him. He took lessons from Frank Sinatra back irt the good old days when Frank was the singing sensation. Kathryn Schwertlech is now an advertising artist at Joske Bros, in San Antonio. Mary Louise Hoelscher is now Chief Instructor in Algebra at Texas University. Doris Klaus has become a woman news comcntator over CBS. She broadcasts bright and early every morning except Sunday.
