BAND The Poteau High School- band has' had its most successful year under the direction of Mrs. Sam T. Green, winning for the first time in its history, the Black Diamond Conference. The band also entered the District Contest and was rated among the best. The contest number for the contests was Stradella by Flotow. The regular members of the band are as follows: Clarinets: Boyd Saviers, Ted Donathan. Billy Paul Nichols, Phyllis Gayle Young. Tommy Tiner. Joe Ben Woodson, Lois Holton. Betty Jeanne Hoyle. Mary Sue Williams. Charles Penix. John David Sorrels, Omer Joe Looper. Joe Anderson. Mary Helen Blankenship. and Arvel Joe Chitwood. Alto clarinet: Kathleen Vaughn. Bass clarinet: John McClain. Bassoon: Ruth Hale Gold. Oboe: Montez Roberson. Trumpets: Bob Ed Cooper, Jack Watson. Billy Joe Levering. James Whitworth, Steve Garrett. Jack S'mith. i Trombones: Wayne Weeks, Fred Pilkington, Billie Burt Frazier. Saxophones: Fay French. Charles Bell. Charles McMurry, Wayne Hamby. Baritones: Billy Ed Williams. Jimmy Turnipseed. Jack Riddle. French Horns: John Robert Clabies. Bill Pilkington. Bass Horns: Hoyt Anderson. Shirley Koch. Alto Horn: Donald Webb. Flutes: Bobby Tidwell. Mary Lou Raney. Bell Lyres: Frances Goodwin. Dorthea Terry. Cymbals: Louise Whisenant. A Tympani: Orben Baker. Bass Drum: Tommy Brown K O Snare Drums: William Earl Whisenant, Walter Ben Smith. , The Drum Majors, Patsy Youmans. Billie Joe Twyman, and Betty Frank Young, have also done outstanding work this year. They have attended the drum major school at the Oklahoma University for the past two summers and will attend this coming summer. Good drum majors practically make the band on parades and Poteau has three good ones. Page Thirty- three

BOYS' GLEE CLUB The Boys' Glee Club is an organization that is a great favorite of the student body. The boys have worked hard to improve their harmony and' tone quality and are believed to be one of the best glee clubs that Poteau has ever had. The glee club won first in the Black Diamond contest and first in the District Contest at Durant. The Members are First tenors: Ted Donathan, Orben Baker, L. H. Gassaway, Tommy Tiner, William Earl Whisenant. Second tenors: Ray Embrey, Fred Pilkington, Bobby Tidwell, Boyd Saviers. Baritones: Wayne Weeks, Jack Watson, Charles McDaniel, John McClain, Frank Fortner, Johnny Blake. Basses: Tommy Boyd, Charles Bell. Paul Dane, Billie Burt Frazier, Jimmy Wilemon. The boys' quartet is composed of Tommy Tiner. Fred Pilkington. Wayne Weeks, and Tommy Boyd. GIRLS' GLEE CLUB One of the most outstanding organizations of Poteau High School is the Girls' Glee Club, consisting of thirty members. This year the Glee Club won the Black Diamond Conference and had as its objective to Win the state contest. These members make up the glee club: Sopranos: Pauline Keifer, Patsy Youmans, Betty Frank Young. Billie Joe Twyman, Marion Tuck, Billie Jeanne Stroud. Goldie Pilgreen, Faye Nored, Billie Kathleen Lyons, Jacqueline Kirk, Erma Hinds, Evelyn Fields, Helen Blankenship. Betty Jo Barnes, and Agnes Askew. Second Sopranos: Mary Morris, Montez Roberson, Kathleen Vaughn, Doris McKown, Louise Hale, Marie Harris, Mae Linkswiler, Wyllie Sue Harris. and Emma Jeanne Donathan. Altos: Allene Boyd, Marcille Babb, Melba Burton, Frances Goodwin, Inez Cuop, and Irene Shrum. The girls' quartet is composed of Pauline Keifer, Montez Roberson, Kathleen Vaughn, and Frances Goodwin, Page Thirty-four
