SCIENCE DEPARTMENT Maintaining A Chemical Balance The Science Department at PHS is dedicated to providing the best science education possi- ble. It is our intent to provide everyone with a basic science education in the areas of earth science, biology, chemistry and physics. The Department offers 10 courses including 3 levels of earth science, 2 levels of biology, 2 levels of physics, a general chemistry course and an individualized lab-oriented science course. Honors courses requiring critical thinking skills are included in the course offerings for earth science and biology. The Science Department consists of 8 full- time teachers including a department chairman. The Department services approximately 540 students. Genius at work INDUSTRIAL ARTS DEPARTMENT Building A Vocational Framework Industrial Arts education is an es- sential phase of general education that involves the preparation, growth and guidance of the individual for modern living. This is accomplished through cooperative experiences in working with industrial materials, tools and processes, and learning of their social and economic signifi- cance to the individual, the home, the community and the nation. The in- dustrial arts technology education program at Portsmouth High School develops the student's general per- spective of the industrial and techno- logical society in which they live, function and contribute.
