J HOME ECONOMICS DEPARTMENT Designing A Total Individual Home Economics at Portsmouth High School is an enjoyable way to gain practical skills and knowledge useful for everyday life. The Department gets students involved from the very beginning by an innovative introduc- tion and comprehensive program in Home Eco- nomics Exploratory. Here students look objec- tively at themselves and the all-important decisions they must make during their teenage years. Following the introductory course, stu- dents elect specializations in the areas of Food and Nutrition, Textiles and Clothing, and Child Development. These courses prepare individuals for adult life as wage earners and consumers, and it helps students accept the challenge of living in an increasingly complex society.
