English The English Department tries to foster an interest in and if possible, a love of reading for information, for recreation, and for wisdom. It provides the students with some knowledge of the structure and the history of their language. It helps the students to clarify their thoughts and to express themselves clearly and logical- ly both critically and courteously to others. At the completion of four years of high school the English student will have covered grammar, composi- tion skills, vocabulary development, many varieties of literature and expository writing. English is the teaching of the skills that help us to communicate more clearly and explicitly with others whether verbally or in writing, of the skills that enable us to receive the accumulated knowledge and wisdom of our race, and of the appreciations, intellectual and aesthetic, that we derive there from. The curriculum is well in place with supplemental agencies contributing to the program. We are very fortunate to have a full time health teacher who can devote all his efforts to an interesting, compre- hensive health program. With our juniors and seniors we are trying to concen- trate on life-time sports, which are types of activities they can continue after graduation. Our students in the ninth and tenth grades will continue the basic program emphasizing the development of skills and techniques in a variety of sports and games.
