English The English Department tries to foster an interest in and if possible, a love of reading for information, for recreation, and for wisdom. It provides the students with some knowledge of the structure and the history of their language. It helps the students to clarify their thoughts and to express themselves clearly and logical- ly both critically and courteously to others. At the completion of four years of high school the English student will have covered grammar, composi- tion skills, vocabulary development, many varieties of literature and expository writing. English is the teaching of the skills that help us to communicate more clearly and explicitly with others whether verbally or in writing, of the skills that enable us to receive the accumulated knowledge and wisdom of our race, and of the appreciations, intellectual and aesthetic, that we derive there from.
