In receiving this training in the arts and sciences, you have also received a foundation for your future life in the community and society. Along with the members of the classes which have preceded you. you have a responsibility to render service and to return to society some of that which it so generously gave you. Through your personal perseverance and success, you will make your own contributions to the community in which you live. IN APPRECIATION We, the class of nineteen hundred and sixty-nine, express our deepest gratitude and appreciation to Mr. Joseph Narcizo for the time and concern he has given us for four years. As our counselor, he has never failed to take a sincere interest in our class as a whole, and more important, in each of us individually. He has always been ready to listen to our problems, and to aid us in solving them, and we have never been reluctant to seek him out. For the past four years, he has been a guiding light in an often uncertain world, always willing to show us the way. He has advised us from our freshman days of adjusting to high school, through schedules and exams, all the way to the momentous task of college applications and acceptance. And it is for this that we thank him so deeply, we also thank him for the countless little things which he has done, and the times in which he has gone out of his way for us. And above all, we thank him for caring so deeply. 7

Principal During your years at Portsmouth High School we have tried to instill in you a thirst for knowledge and a desire for self-improvement. Since, it is said, The future belongs to the youth, it seems important that the future of the world rests with a desire to improve plus the knowledge needed to improve. No longer will you be able to blame “the system since you are the system. No longer will you be able to say I don’t like it”, “It is wrong”, “Why don’t they — . You are “they”. It has been a pleasure knowing the Senior Class. It is with confidence that I look at the members of the class of 1969 helping to shape the future of the world. MR. WILLIAM CARBERRY Vice Principal Message to Class of 1969 An honest man is the noblest work of God” (Alexander Pope) A teacher today has but to listen to the voices of students to discover an interesting antinomy. Young people today are in an earnest quest of identity and at the same time they sense a strong need for community or togetherness. If your search of self and usefulness to others is to be a contribution, then the search must be an honest one. You should adjust to the world as it is and work diligently and peacefully to change it for everyone’s benefit. You can do this by telling the truth and making it a matter of conscience.
