superintendent of schools mr. roland shappy Beginning to build its traditions upon a more sound foundation, the Class of 1967 approaches the moment of graduation with the knowledge that it has con- tributed its share to Portsmouth High School. As the second graduating class, it has profited from the experiences of its predecessor. The Senior Class always has the responsibility for generating school spirit, initia- tive and drive. As Seniors, the present class has recognized and reaffirmed that responsibility. Your responsibility does not cease upon your graduation. If the school has done a creditable job, your personal success and your contribution to the society in which you live, will reflect the thoroughness of your preparation of life. Hi! I come from the city of Mar del Plata, Argen- tina. I attended and was later graduated from Stella Maris School, and have qualified to be an elementary school teacher. Several delegates from A.F.S. came to our school and reported on the scholarship offered. Approximately 100 boys and girls registered from this program from the entire city. We took a written exam in general culture and an oral exam on politics, religion, and racial segrega- tion. Only 30 were excepted, I amongst them. There were several interviews with our families, teachers, and friends, all to acquaint A.F.S. with us. Afterwards, this information was sent to New York, where we were matched with an ap- propriate family. Finally, only six were chosen as delegates based on personality, scholarship and character. communications abroad I am very happy to be a student at Portsmouth High School this year. The entire student body and faculty has helped to make my stay a mem- orable and rewarding one. I know I will never forget this year. Many thanks. Mirta 16

I also ask you to retain through the years your Enthusiasm for a life of freshness, vigor, and imagination. Have the courage to keep your ideals before you as unfailing goals, because to forget them would be to lose all. adminis Members of the Class of 1967, I ask you to re- member that your teachers have linked a past of striving and accomplishments to a future of opportunity and challenge. You are the living products of their concern; the hopeful focus of their faith in man's ability to learn from his heri- tage of failure and success. Their guidance and their teaching are invaluable tools in facing the awesome future. Best wishes and Godspeed. Hard work has made you the senior members of Portsmouth High School. Following gradua- tion you will lose this senior status and only by hard work can it be re-established in your chosen endeavor. If, while at- tending Portsmouth High, you learned that work and success are proportionate, your future happiness will be insured.
