-no 1'- CO MA DING OFFICER COMMANDER JOSEPH M. GREENE, JR. UNIVTED STATES, NAVY Commander Greene is a native of Millville, New Jersey, and graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1969. He was promoted to his present rank on August 1, 1984. After commissioning, he was assigned to USS JOHN S. MCCAIN CDDG-361 as Assistant Combat Information Officer and later assumed the duties of Missile Officer and Fire Control Officer. In July 1972, he reported to the Human Resource Development Center, Newport, Rhode Island for staff duty until January 1974. Upon completion of the Department Head Course at the Naval Destroyer School in Newport, Rhode Island, Commander Greene served as Weapons Officer on the USS VOGE IFF-10473 from December 1974 to December 1976. He was then assigned as Operations Officer of the USS CHARLESTON CLKA-1131 where he served until December 1978. Subsequently, Commander Greene attended the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Ca- lifornia, graduating in June 1980, with a Master of Science Degree in Manpower Analysis. In July 1980, he was assigned to the Chief of Naval Operations staff where he served in the Long Range Manpower Planning Branch COP-1101 and was designated a proven subspecialist in Manpower Analysis. Commander Greene served as Executive Officer of the USS SAGINAW QLST-11883 from March 1982 to May 1984. For the next twenty-four months, he served on Commander Amphibious Group Twois staff as the Training and Readiness Officer. He then reported to the USS SAIPAN CLHA-21 as Operations Officer from June 1986 to October 1987 Commander Greene is married to the former Susan Gardner Fitzgerald of Newport, Rhode Island. They have two children, Meredith and Joseph III, and reside in Virginia Beach, Virginia. 10
