It is a formal ritual conducted before the assembled company of the command. The change of command of a naval ship is nearly unique in the world today, it is a transfer of the total responsibility, authority and accountability from one individual to another. rs . ,f ' ,A sl, U... Y Qffjcial pany at Rostrum. al - i L COMMANDER MARK STEVEN FALKEY UNITED STATES NAVY Commander Falkey, a native of Miami, Florida, was commissioned in 1972 when he graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. His initial sea tour was as First Lieutenant and then Navigator aboard USS MORTON CDD-9481 in Pearl Harbor. From there he transferred to San Diego, Califomia where he served as Operations Officer aboard USS BRISTOL COUNTY CLST-11981 and then Combat Systems Instructor at Surface Warfare Officer School Detachment in Coronado. Commander Falkey then attended Surface Warfare Officer School Department Head School in Newport, Rhode Island. He served as Weapons Officer aboard USS JULIAS A. FURER CFFG-61 in Charleston, South Carolina and First Lieutenant on USS SAIPAN CLHA-21 in Norfolk, Virginia. In August 1984, Commander Falkey reported to the Surface Warfare Officer School as an instructor. He then returned to sea as Executive Officer on USS OGDEN ILPD-SJ in Long Beach, California. By virtue of an MBA, Commander Falkey is coded as a Financial Manager which was required for his next job in the Surface Warfare Program and Budget Office fOPNAV-301 in the Penta on. . Corimander Falkey's awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal, the Combat Action Ribbon, and various unit and service awards. Commander Falkey and his wife Mary have three children, Mark Steven, Jr., Elizabeth Ann, and John Robert. 6
