. ef Guidance Department Increases Facilities This year the Guidance Department doubled its stall with the addition of two more counselors and another clerk. NVith the addition of these new mem- bers to the staff, more counseling facilities are avail- able to Portland High students. Specialization has been the keynote. Mr. Philip Dennis. head of the department. and Mr. john Conroy specialize in non-college course guidance. Mrs. Doris Damren, the educational adviser, counsels students on college choices and admissions procedures. She has also been a very great influence in getting many schol- arships for PHS students. Mrs. Elizabeth Schmidt. the counselor for freshmen. 'lids them in getting adjusted to high school life. Mrs. llelen Young and Mrs. julia Nlurphy are clerks in the department.
