The talents and special knowledge which they try to transfer to us during school hours are also utiliz- ecl in furthering their outside endeavors and activities. Faculty members hold public office and serve on committees for civic improvement and public health. Our teachers take an active part in the fields of art, music and the drama, by worlcing with amateur theatrical clubs and by playing in various city orchestral groups. Vocational teachers bring forth products of their skills to enrich the community and to bring credit to the school. l8l

. . . in 6Wlue14f Ab adam' Since such civic minded men and women compose the faculty here at Portland High School, it is little wonder that the student, from the time he enters the school as a freshman, is being constantly reminded of his com- munity responsibility. He is continuously taught that he is not a mere in- dividual among a group of teen-agers, but that he is a vital part of Society at Large. To the faculty, then, we give thanks. If sometimes we have grumbled when an assignment has seemed arduous or too time-consuming, we found in the end that we being prepared to take our place as citizens of the world.
