FROM THE EDITOR . . . Once again the Searchlight is here! We, as the Searchlight staff sincerely hope that this annual, not only will bring back memories for you, and that it is the best yet , but that it will be a good testimony of what Christian High is really like. Each of us have earnestly prayed that it will be another method of influencing young people to come to Christian High, and as a result become better prepared to live a victorious life for Christ. Our theme this year is the Christian pathway. Jesus said that the first step to entering life is to go through the straight and narrow gate . From here on He says that the way is not easy-the road is narrow and straight, but, more important than any earthly troubles we could have, are the spiritual joys and blessings along the way and finally eternal life at the end of the road. The last gates through which we will ever pass will be those of the new jerusalem. May God help each one of us to continue in His Way so that our happiness and joy will be complete when we face Christ on that wonderful day! U Leonard Schmurr Chairman G. S. Education Committee Chairman H. S. Education Harold Steinhauer I Daniel Hager Chairman BUIMIHX Commute? Chairman Student Aid Committee MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT- In the Portland Christian School we seek to develop the three phases of each human individual, viz: body, soul, and spirit QI Thes. 5:23j as God intended. Through our body we are world conscious, able to move from place to place, our body is the temple of the Holy Ghost: through our soul ,we are self conscious, able to absorb the knowledge pre- sented: while with the spirit we become God conscious when we come into the right relationship with Jesus Christ. Then we have that wisdom which is from above Uas. 3217, and become complete in Him CCOI. 2:10J. Failure to recognize and develop the spiritual in our youth leaves them without wisdom to cope with the problems of this age. But at Portland Christian School it is our aim to bring each individual student into such a relationship with God through Christ that he will be able to see God's handiwork through every subject studied. And since by Him all things consist and in Him we live and move and have our being , we can have that peace that passeth understanding . We seek to give a complete education that equips our graduates to face the problems of life, and though the storm clouds may gather, we place our hand in the hand of Him who knows the end from the beginning and doeth all things well . Thus equipped we can face life calmly and without fear. GEORGE H. ATKINSON President of the Board COOLEY-WOLSBORN CONSTRUCTION COMPANY Homes Near the Christian Schools l 130 S.E. l22nd Avenue ALpine 4-5531
