Sharks Baseball Great Coaching And Teamwork The Sharks overcame many diffi- culties throughout the season and produced one of the finest records ever in Sharks' history with a score of 23 wins and 5 losses. It looked difficult for the Sharks at the begin- ning of the year with only two se- niors returning to play but great coaching and a terrific team effort pulled through and put together one of the best defenses in the state. Both Coach Lewter and Coach Col- bert worked very hard this year moving players around in the in- field and up and down in the bat- ting order until they put together the perfect team. Senior pitcher, Keef Pettis teamed up with his se- nior partner. Tim Hatcher for the Sharks’ main battery. Duane McFarland. Harlon Haddock. Craig Weimorts, Kevin Watts, and Steve Peak also pitched great games for the Sharks. Teamwork was the greatest factor in the Sharks’ favor as they climbed the ladder of suc- cess until they finally made it to the Florida State 2A Playoffs in St. Cloud. The Sharks started off on their road to their many titles by taking the Gulf Coast Conference in a clean sweep by shutting out Wa- kulla in twenty-one innings of play. They then proceeded to the District Tournament and beat Chat- tahoochee to move them on to the Regional game against Wakulla. Af- ter beating Wakulla, the Sharks then went to the Sectional game against Vernon with powerhouse pitcher. Tony Peterson, and slugged eight homers to win the section and go on the “big trip”. Although the Sharks had come off of some great wins in the playoffs, they couldn’t get it together for the big one against Palmetto in the State Semi- finals. After a dissappointing 11-0 loss, the Sharks held their heads high because they knew that they were winners—no matter how the game turned out. After all the dust cleared and the tears were dried, the Sharks reflected on what they had done to make it to the State Playoffs and felt proud to be representative of the great baseball tradition that Port St. Joe has had in the past and to also put their own little dent in the history books of St. Joe High School accomplishments.
