fl Fftys ,f K CLASS HISTORY OUR years ago the academic shnp of Port Rlchmond Hlgh School the vessel Mlnstrel embarked on an eventful trap lt was In l936 ln February and again In September that groups of bewildered elementary school grad uates came on board the good ship Mmstrel and were steered safely unto harbor by their pnlots Mass Gertrude Gale and Mrs Agnes Larkun The voyage was rough ln places storms yes gales at tnmes made It seem as nf port would never be reached However the shore as rn saght the voyage nears :ts end and the passengers chat about their remunxscences wrlt ten ln the log for the perusal of others ln December of the year l936 the class participated ln their flrst and unfortunately only Class Day However overshadownng thus dusapponntment came the news that Port Richmond was to have an addutnon For several weeks the tranquil lnfe of our school days was upset by the raucous poundnng and chuggmg of motors ln the fall of l938 history was made' Mr Wulllam Halloran our prlncupal stepped behund the controls of a steam shovel and of flcrally started constructlon of the new buuldlng This wasn t to prove a dream either for before the June class graduated the new llbrary and girls gymna slum were opened for use lt took a l94O student to make a record un the classroom The student was Joseph Maloy who not only achreved the hughest mduvldual average ln the hnstory of thus school wnth a standung of 99 2511 but also won second place In the National League of Natlons Contest In has sensor year Despite these achlevements Maloy somehow found time to be edltor rn chref of Crow s Nest for three terms to be vlce presldent of the General Organnza tlon and to be president of the Sensor Arlsta When Maloy graduated Jack Levy took the reuns of our school news paper Norma Steen was the edutor un chief of the l939 Issue of Pernagua whnch was manned almost exclusively by l94O graduates whale Warren Relger was at the wheel of the Spanrsh publncatuon El Faro ln the Arista Evelyn Beckvar held down the posltlon of vlce president and Cecelia Gumllar the post of secretary Holdung sxrmlar posts as their Immediate successors were Lena Sutera and Grace Egbert Warren Fenley asude from has basketball talents exhnblted prowess nn the polntlcral fleld also garnlng the post of presldency of the General Organs zatlon and then benng re elected agaln the following term lt was during thus perlod that the Confederation of Island Hugh Schools founded by Port Richmond was further developed Another phase of our student government was the G O Cabinet on which Rnchard Wresner Ruth Salter Regina Feeney Rose Perelka Dons McLees and Karl Schmendler held posntlons 1 Il - ll - - - I ' I I I - - Il - 11 - 1 1 , . .
