rfdifvr In the following pages you will find your school life during the 1959-60 school year. It is impossible to record in so few pages a complete history of a year at Port Neches-Groves, but we have made an effort to preserve on paper a part of every phase of school life. As the years pass and your memory grows dim, I hope that these pages will ever be present to recall the many phases you saw, the events in which you par- ticipated, and the friends that you made during 1959-1960. Editing the 1960 War Whoop has been both a privilege and a pleasure. If you like what you see, don't thank me, the editor, but thank the many people who have worked untiringly with me. I give my special thanks to Mr. Ralph Ehren, our sponsor, for his faithful leadership and guidance, to Mr. Dana Ransom, our pho- tographer, the answer to an editor's prayer when deadlines and quality count, to our business manager, Carolyn Mays, for doing an unbelievable job in handling the business affairs of this book, the mem- bers of our staff, who have worked so diligently, asking no reward. lt is to these people that we all owe a vote of thanks. Now here is your War Whoop '60, I hope you enioy it. Sincerely Yours, 0 Edwin Stevens Editor

The dictionary definition of Dedicate is . . . to inscribe or address to a patron, or friend, by way of honor or compli- ment. Our dedication of this War Whoop to Mr. Jerry Tucker covers much more than iust that. It is a warmer, more per- sonal thing than a dictionary meaning can possibly express. And it comes from the bottom of our hearts. To us, Mr. Tucker is a good friend, someone each of us can turn to, know- ing that his decisions, advice, and assist- ance will be individualized, sympathetic and fair. To us, he really is a counselor . . . in name and deed! All through the years, student interests have been Mr. Tucker's interests too. This warm attitude is illustrated by the indivi- duals and organizations with which he deals directly. He helped organize the Hi-Y Club, and until 1958, he taught Eng- lish ll, American History and Texas His- tory. At that time he became counselor of our high school. And so with hearts humble with grati- tude, we of the War Whoop staff dedi- cate our 1960 War Whoop to you, Mr. Jerry Tucker. Derhczzfmu
