We are from Port Neches-Groves. We are proud of our achievements both individually and as a class. We are the largest class in the history of Port Neches-Groves High School. We have won the variety show two years in succession. In the sweetheart campaign 31550 was raised, as the largest amount ever, and proclaimed our candidate Football Sweetheart. Our class members were very important in the athletic spotlight, bringing such recognition as District Track Championship, District and 'Bi-District Baseball Champion- ship, and District Golf Championship. Our mightiest year, 1959, we conquered the Bulldogs to make a wonderful Senior year even more outstanding. CLASS SONG: Now As We Leave Thee Now as we leave thee, dear P. N. G. It was given in honor of the graduation class and is one of the main tradi- tions of Port Neches-Groves High School. Gene Terry and his Downbeats provided thc music from nine o'clock until midnight. Filmy evening dresses adorned with corsages, and suits and sport coats were the dress of some five hundred students and faculty members. Bobby Wachsmuth was the master of ceremonies of the floor show. The show featured numbers from June Badon's School of Dance. R051 Lia Dean, Pat Riley, and Wava Riggle sang You Cheated. Frank Morris and Dale Green presented a skit. Mardi Gras was the theme of the Prom and the stage was decorated with Cut-Out champagne glasses with large pink elephants placed above them. Upon entering, each person was given a mask to wear, the girls' masks being blue with white lace, and the boys' blue. Also, a booklet shaped like a mask to exchange signatures with friends was given as a memorandum. This was truly an unforget- table night. if As each couple entered, there were admiring and compliment- ing glances from everyone. I O-at ,,,.hQ4! f , ' naw. The club had business people to talk to them at their weekly meetings on Fridays. Throughout the year the members received practice in taking dictation and in operating the many office machines. The Future Secretaries Club had several business men to lecture to them on the qualifications ofa good secretary. Other programs were planned by the girls, such as one skit which demonstrated how a secretary should and should not act. J The purpose of the Junior Red Cross is to be of service to the school and the community. It serves as the junior membership of the American Red Cross, giving opportunities for youth to serve others locally, nationally, and internationally: and to develop skills, leadership, ability, and citizenship. At the beginning of school, production was begun with the making of joke books, cartoon books, crossword puzzle books, short story books, and score pads. These went to hospitals and charitable institutions. Cookies were made at Thanksgiving, Valentine's Day and Easter for use by shut-ins. The club planned a complete menu and contributed all the food for a needy family in Port Neches on Thanksgiving Day, cooperating with the Community Chest in the selection of the family. During November the group helped collect and pack for shipping the used clothing for the needy, which the entire high school contributed. Posters were made and distributed to advertise the South County Toy Tea in December, and all the members brought toys. These were given to the Community Chests in Port Neches, Nederland, Port Arthur, Groves, and Beaumont. The club had a different committee to plan the program each week. Center John Wilson and end Bill McCoy were line standouts for the Indians. INDIAN B SQUAD TAKES PORT ARTHUR, 16-12 Two long runs by sophomore David Miller led the Port Neches- Groves B squad to a 16-12 victory over the Port Arthur Yellow Jackets' B squad. Mil1er's first run was 27 yards and his next one was 65 yards. He ran for one conversion, and Farland Bottoms made the other.
