Leyden Jar h Occupations Club 2 3 A Girl Scouts 1 2 Girls' Intramurals 1 2 3 ll Memories Do you remember when, after many wonderful experiences in Junior High, the Class of '51 reached the promised land of High School? That wonderful first year was one we shall always remember. We struggled at first under the deluge of x's and y's of algebra and the puella and puer of Latin. But we began to like the change from just learning the 3 R's, for now we were upperclassmen. My, were we proud! With the help of our advisor, Mr. Thomas, and Janet's leadership we sponsored a gay and colorful carnival for the enjoyment of all the 'kiddles'. From thiS venture we made our very first deposit towards our Senior trip which we already anxiously awaited. Then too, our not-too-skillful hands produced some brilliant drapes for our precious Frosh home- room. These still remain as evidence of our school spirit and enthusiam in this--our first year. Do you remember when we, as Sophomores under the guidance of Mr. Meekins and David, added to our memories by having a Spring dance and just plain fun? We didn't do much after this in the way of sponsoring activites, but we gay and carefree Sophomores were ever pre- sent at all school activities. Besides merrymaklng we devoted much of our time to the tri- angles and parallelograms of geometrmthe.4L4,cr shorthand and the oui and je vale bien of le francais. Thus, we completed our Sophomore year, a more sociable and educated class, prepared to meet the new adventures which awaited us. Do you remember when we finally received our much-prided class rings? We were Juniors then and a step closer to our final year. Mrs. Ripp, our advison and Jack, our President guided us in sponsoring activities in honor of the Senior Class of '50, such as selling Senior Play tickets, waiting on tables, and buying their corsages for the Alumni Banquet. The biggest event of this year was the traditional Senior Ball. Dancing to the music of the 'Top Hats', the crowning of the King and Queen and special decorations made this one of our most cherished memories. Do you remember when we as Seniors pulled together in our last minute efforts to earn money for our Senior trip? The publishing of the 'Portal' under the competent supervision of Miss LaFaro highlighted these efforts. The 8911182 of candv at basketball games, spon- soring dances, having bake sales, and selling magazine subscr1pt1ons,d1r9cted capably by MT- Royal and 383912, again our President, have all been memorable chapters ln our Senior Class History. Also, our production of 'Act Your Age' with its uproarious situations and sparkling dialogue scored a brilliant hit. The cast under the directlon or Mr. Betlem did an excellent job in portraying the characters of this hilarious comedy. It consisted of: Angelica iangyb Goetz.... ...Joyce Geraldine lJerryJ...... .....Jenny - 1 GOTEIIOIIIOOOIIOIIICII Olilconnie '11, ne COCll.lllOlllIlIll ...Faith Xu stoneooooooooooao OlOOlJanet v Western Union Messenger... ....Stella 4 V if Stoneiill OOO! lil IOOOOIQICI oooooooo-Bob Blu' lc:saooooocoooooooooooooooBi11 Archibald lGadgetl Hoffenflugel, M.M. 2c....Dav1dv Of course we shall never forget our wonderful experience in the big city of New York. With the capable guidance of Mr. Royal and Mrs. Cox, our expectations were fulfilled with complete satisfaction. Now we have reached the completion or our preliminarytraining of life. It is fitting then to thank all who have made it possible for us to arrive at this goal--our graduation. And as we turn to face the future we will try to prove successful in their eyes and ln the eyes of the world. Motto: T O M O R R O W I S O U R S Colors: Red and White Flower: Red Carnation 12 Q. ' 13 7 Prophecy The date is now June 27, 1971 and we are assembled once more in the new auditorium of the Port Leyden Academy for our 20th Alumni Banquet. This is the first time we have all been together since graduation and we see quite a change in the old Class of '5l. The first to arrive and early of course is Mr. Keith Ernst a very well-to-do farmer. Keith built up the old farm so that lt now extends from Talcottville to Lyons Falls, is equipped with all the modern conveniences and run by scientific farming methods. Next to arrive is General Charles Moone who enlisted shortly after graduation. Next month he will retire with a pension of 5700 per month. We now see Robert Mashaw tearing around the corner in his newest hot-rod. He has made his millions by winning the 500-mile race at Indianapolis every year for the past twenty years. His wife, the former Joyce Curtis, who is accompanying him tonight, has found the Home Economics courses, which she took in Port Leyden High, very useful in her present life. Next, striding in with two body guards, is the famous and lovable warden of Sing- Sing our former classmate Jack Walsh. He has devoted his life to helping vicious cri nals Ngo straight.n ln fact he has done so well that the famous prisons are going on the rocks. Now coming in is Mrs. David Marmon, the former Janet Rocker. She and her husband have changed the former Marmon and Rocker Corporation into a life partnership and it has turned out to be very successful. Next to arrive are the two famous electronic technicans, Richard Mackey and David Van Aernam. Eighteen years ago they both graduated from the Canton Technical Institute and went to work for G-E and Westinghouse. Five years later Richard took over the Westinghouse Company and David took over G-E. They now have combined their companies into the Mackey-Van Aernam National Electrical and Radio Corporation. And here comes Constance Croniser a competent executive secretary, and head of a staff of fifty stenographers employed in the Mackey-Van Aernam firm. Arriving now is the former Emily Mooney, accompanied by her husband, Joseph Eggelston, recently discharged from the Army. They have opened a chain of gas stations which are very successful. Who is the tall blond in uniform coming in now? Of course! It is Captain Jean Weber, who has devoted her life to the WACS. She has revolutionized this branch of the service by changing the color of the uniforms from dark khaki to bright aqua. Who should be entering now but Gerald Schaffner, Our once girl-shy children. Arriving next is the wealthy and gracious Gladys lished a chain of the present coach at Notre Dame. classmate is happily married and is the father of eight lovely Rocker. She has recently estab- bakeries throughout the forty-eight states. Her specialty is spice cake without raisins. Entering now very tired. It's they have resided Now arriving is the former Stella McIntyre, now the wife of Carl Burnham, looking no wonder for she and her husband have traveled from Georgia where since Carl was stationed there during 1951. is the famous beautician, Pauline Hoffman. After many years of study she has become wealthy and well-known for her newly discovered WAtomicN beautifying lotions and skin creams and Atomic reducing agents. Next to make his grand entrance is Sir William Reilly who was recently knighted by the king of England for his brilliant acting in the command performance of WHamlet.n We now see Genevieve Villiere driving up in her new 1971 Cadillac. Miss Villiere has become a famous opera singer and has just returned from her tour of Europe. While she was visiting Paris, France, she met another of our traveling classmates, Faith O'Brien who is now the last tg arrive and late as usual. Faith has in the past been an outstanding flutist in the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, but several years ago she accepted the position as a French translator in the United Nations. lk '?
