During the first semester, an operetta, UChon1taH, was prepared and presented at two performances, under the direction of Miss Genevieve Primo. The cast includesg Chonita- Shirley Maahaw, Murdo- Jerry Howard, Stefan- Bernard Swartzman, Baron Stanes- cue- Robert Marmon, Baroness Stsnescue- Betty Mullaney, Konrad, their son- Joe Fraser, Emil, a servant- David Marmon, Gypsy Dancing Girls- Lillian Korman, Madeline Korman, Betty Mclntyre, Stella McIntyre, Sally Mashaw, Barbara McDermott. The other members of the chorus made up the Gypsy tribe. Accompanist- Joanne Parrish. The following members were chosen to represent Port Leyden in the Lewnelda League mixed chorus which rehearsed twice monthly in Boonville and presented a concert with the League Concert Band ln April, Sopranos- Shirley Mashaw, Shirley Hall, Thelma Moon- ey, Contraltos- Betty Mullaney, Betty Ann Pearson, Tenors- Richard Ripp, Irving Post, Robert Marmon, William Reilly, Bases- Jerry howard, Bernard Swartzman, David Marmon, Joseph Fraser. One of the three accompanists in the chorus is Joanne Parrish. The chorus as a whole, participated in the Annual Spring Festival of the tewnelda League, held at the Boonville Fairgrounds, June 4. Miss Helen Hosmer of the Crane De- partment of Music, Potsdam State Teachers College, was again conductor of the mass cho- rus at the festival. . 27

BAND The Port Leyden Band under the direction of Miss Genevieve Premo, presented their first public performance of the year with the annual winter concert ln December. The spring program was a very busy one with eighteen soloists, and an equal number of vocal soloists as well as the band entered in New York State School Music Association Festival in Home in May. Eleven members -- Robert Harmon, Betty Mullaney, Joanne Parrish, Rita Croneiser, Sandra Chase, Janet Rocker, William Reilly, Donald Galaraneau, Joanne Hall, Bernard Swartzman, and Connie Croneiser -- were selected to rehearse with the Lewnelda League Concert Band every other Monday evening and participated in the concert in April. The Dramatic Club started the year under the supervision of Miss Agostina Schillacl and Mr. Thomas Carpenter. It is composed of members from the four high school grades with the following officers: President - Shirley Mashawg V1ce:Pres1dent - Glenn Stevens, Secretary and, Treasurer - Shirley Hall. X The group started its season with a one-act play titled WBa1cony Sceneu directed by Mr. Carpenter. Although the play was not judged the prize play of the evening, Robert Maryhugh won top honors as the male actor of the evening. Others members of the cast included Vera Hazelwool, Barbara Fahey, Violet White, Glenn Stevens and Jack Paddock. This spring the group cast the play 'Nine Girls' by Wilfred Pettitt. Directed by Mr. Carpenter it was presented February 26 and proved to be a hugh success. Members of the cast included: Sally Mashaw, Faithe O'Br1en, Barbara McDermott, Betty Ann Pearson, Betty Mullaney, Vera Hazelwood, Sue Morley, Genevieve Villiers, Janet Rocker and Shirley Mashaw. ' , With themoney which the play 'Nine Girls' brought in a new set was bought,,wh1ch was made and put by Mr. Battles, Mr. Carpenter and some of the shop boys. 28
