News of 1929 Here and There Miss Grace Montana was called home the other day by the serious ill- ness of her mother. During her ab- sence several ambitious substitutes con- ducted her classes for her. Mr. Henry Biederstedt is again driving his car back and forth week- ends, much to the approval of Grace and Nlary. Principal E. VV. Glasby attended a very important meeting at Potsdam a short time ago. Everybody was very much pleased and delighted to read Principal E- W. Glasbyls article on Mathematics which was published in a recent num- ber of The York State Education. Some of the students found it very inconvenient to come on the early 8:00 o'clock train so they had classes ar- ranged so that they might come on the 9:17. Miss Kathryn E. Bangert spent the week-end at 1Vatertown. Mr. Albert Myfers accompanied her home. Miss Blanche 'Kilmer spent her Easter vacation at Turin. Mr. Schell Williams, Esq., wishes that the person who stole the silver pencil from its conspicuous place on his desk, would please return said article sooner or later. llfliss Sophie lwazur and Kurt Blixt spent the week-end at their respective homes at Fish Creek. The Senior hand-writing on the wall in the high school room is almost too conspicuous. On VVednesday evening, May 17, the Parent-Teachers Association held a county fair. The high school stu- dents featured HCome to the Fairn and many other numbers entertained the large audience which turned out. Music Week, May 6-12, was enthu- siastically enjoyed at Port Leyden High School and also Port Leyden Community through the wonderful afternoon and evening programs. The outside talent which helped so kindly was exceptionally Wonderful. .,.,-.psf-0-0 Alumni Notes Friends were pleased to read YVil- liam Lukas' article on Movietone', which was published recently. Wil- liam has never stopped experimenting since he left school. Eleanor Buckley has obtained a school for next year nearby so she may teach at home. Schell Williams, who took a post graduate course at Port Leyden High School the past year, leaves for Colgate this fall- Harland Bishop has resigned his position in the Victory store and Miss Alice Doster has taken his place. Miss Edna Hall, an employee of the Port Leyden National Bank, recently rebelled against the banking hours as she had to get up too early. Miss Florence Wilson, winner of Cornell Scholarship last year and also of one of the State Scholarships, made a short visit in Port Leyden during Christmas vacation. Miss Lena Salsburg was an Easter visitor in Port Leyden. E301
