Martinowsky-Yearbook Editor, H. Spangenberg-Vice President, R. Lef- lerts-President, P. Hunt-Social Chairman, P. Brady-Secretary, D. Howard-Treasurer, M. Lipman-Parliamentarian. We enthusiastically started work on our year- book almost immediately after school began. In November many of us participated in Senior Day. On this day seniors take the place ot teachers and instruct in the various classrooms. This was a valuable experience for all of us, especially lor those interested in the teaching profession. The main part of our activities was centered on the raising of money for our treasury. At the beginning of the year We sold Port Iervis High School book coversy during the football season we operated a concession stand on the lieldg some 14 senior boys sold a daily area UGWSPCIPGI' to the students during the year, and in March we presented the senior play-actually a series of three one act plays. As our senior year gradually comes to a close, we look back and recall our varied class activities. We would like to thank those teachers who gave up their time so we could organize and carry out these activities: Mrs. Dorothy Call, Mr. Rus- sell Faiello, Mr. Harold Goewey, Mr. George Frank, Mr. Hillis Mcllnay, Rosemary McClare, Senior Play Directorg and Mr. Richard Coler, Year- book Adviser. Brothman, I. Marchant, I. Weiss. A good example of unity is illustrated by the magnificent way all the musical instruments in a band can combine their sounds to create harmony. Under the direction of Mr. Harold Neubert, the band performed at two exchange assemblies, a Christmas Concert, the annual Spring Concert, and all of the Duso League football games. Five members participated in the Area All-State Band in Ellenville. Another important part of the band are the majorettes who, under the leadership of captain Stella Martinowsky and co-captains Susanne Schneider and Iudith Weiss, led the band down the football field at all the games. Basketball With only two veterans from last year's squad, Coach Farace's team finished the season with a commendable 15-7 record. Our record within the Duso League was a humble 9-7, six .of our fifteen wins were not league games. The highlights of the season included the upset victories over Liberty, Warwick and Kingston. The two most significant high- lights Were the victories which enabled Port Iervis to obtain the Village Duso Championship and the Section 9 Championship over Monticello and Onteora respectively. The scoring of Wayne Ranich, Harry Boyd, and Bill Pepper was recognized by all as a decisive factor in our favor, Port will lose six seniors at graduation: Harry Boyd, Wayne Ranich, Hugh Spangenberg, Bill Pepper, Mike Lipman and Ted Perkowski. Congratulations to Bill Pepper and Wayne Ranich for making the second All-Duso team, and Harry Boyd Who received honorable mention. This year's team can well be praised for adding two more trophies to the trophy case. To the boys on the team and to Coach Farace, We extend thanks for providing us with an excit- ing basketball season. VARSITY BASKETBALL 9 12 15 18 6 9 13 24 27 30 6 13 55 .. 17 .. Our Red Raiders won only two games of the eight they played, but the story does not lie in the scores alone. In the hard-fought con- tests our team provided us with the enjoyment of watching good football, As the season pro- gressed, more and more Port fans turned out to support their team. The games were played to the best of the players' abilities, dramatized in the closeness of the games against Pough- keepsie, Hudson, and East Stroudsburg. Team spirit, too, was shown in the annual turkey day rivalry classic against Middletown High School in which the Raiders swamped the Middies by a margin of forty points, and thus retained the Erie Bell -for the fourth straight year. 72 Second Row: Quick, L. From this Port Iervis team, tive players re- ceived DUSO honors. Iunior Frank Bell and sophomore Doug Parsons were chosen on the ALL-DUSO lirst team as fullback and center, respectively. Bill Pepper made second team as an end. Harry Boyd and Bill Morgan received honorable mention. The varsity next year will lose the services of Russ Backus, Tracy Todd, Art Aumick, Keith Startup, Ralph Hessberger, Bill Pepper, and Harry Boyd. To the advantage of Coach Ioe Viglione and his assistants, Floyd Robbins and Gordie Short, many promising players led by ALL-DUSO's Frank Bell and Doug Parsons, will return to lead P.I. into its next DUSO season.
