An attempt will be made to enlarge other phases of the contest with special emphasis on 1948 upon a full dav of entertainment at the close of the rodeo The entertainment nrozram is not ready for an official announcement at this time but plans are to make it biz er and better than ever The rodeo will be en larged from year to year as Port Isabel and the Valley expand until the contest eventlallv reaches the magnitude that we have visualized The Rodeo has passed the evperimental state It is now well established that such a fishing contest upon a National scale is practical, that its success can be assured from year t year, and that the sporting public of the Nation is interested to the point that no distance is too great for fishermen to travel to enjoy wholesome competition which such a contest in sures It fell to the lot of the little city of Port Isabel to be first in the Nation to prove the practicability of a national sport fishing contest Helen Lu Burnell and her 6 ft , 102 lb Mrs Thelma Campbell and her 5 ft , Tarpon, the heaviest caught in the Rodeo 9 in , Bl lb Tarpon caught in the of 1947 Rodeo of 1947 ku!- 1 'EIL Frying fish at the Rodeo. 71
