We wish Mr. Nault a successful career as Assistant Principal of Port Huron High School. 7 8 Port Huron is a progressive city. The expanding city limits continue to be adorned with new edifices as neces- sity is shown. The new interstate highway system has transformed our surroundings, making them resemble those of many other prosperous metropolitan areas. The growing population demanded the construction of three elementary schools and Port Huron Northern High School. Through the gracious gift of Andrew J. Murphy a Junior Sports Arena and Tower are added to the Me Morran Complex. 9 . cooperates with administrative • • Superintendent of Schools Dr. Gerald De Grow and School Board policies . . . Board of Education The seven members of the Board of Education have explored many new areas of educational opportunity during the 1965-66 school year. Along with this, the Board has been very busy with such regular activities as policy making, personnel approval, appropriations of budgets and expenditures, and a second curri- culum study. Many extra meetings were held regarding special problems and the mill age struggle. Education is moving into many new areas of exploration and our Board is keeping Fort Huron up to date with much of this. The opening of the Thomas A. Edison Elementary and Sparlingville Elementary Schools, programmed our district into the practices of team teaching and individualized instruction. The initiation of Project Headstart explored the need for offering culturally deprived children a chance for a better start in school. A citizen ' s study to effect possible reorganization of the Junior College was launched. Application for federal funds for home study centers and remedial instruction programs faced up to the need for helping educationally disadvantaged children. 11 in preparation for a future as an asset to his community Port Huron High School students realize the importance of developing their minds and personalities in order to be assets to their community during and after high school. Thus, these public buildings represent the resources which the community makes available to its young members. They serve as sources of knowledge, justice, and recreation - ail necessary elements in the complete student and citizen of Port Huron. 13 Activities 16 Underclassmen 138 14 15 Hard work and imagination Juniors win first place with their float entitled WHALE ' EM . The 15th Annual Senior Government Day was held in St. Clair County on April 28, 1966. Port Huron acted as host to what was the largest gather- ing of Senior Government Day students ever held in the state of Michigan. Students from the county heard Dr. Gerald DeGrow, the Superintendent of Port Huron Area Schools, deliver the opening message. Later, students met in smaller groups to hear local and state government officials discuss such varied topics as mental retardation, juvenile delinquency, civil rights, and re- creation facilities. The first Senior Government Day was held in the Wood- row Wilson Gymnasium, but it w as transferred to the McMorran Auditorium and, later, to the McMorran Sports Arena in order to accommodate grow- ing numbers of area Seniors. Co-chairmen, Joija Goodman and Robert Barker worked along with Mr. Ralph Harrison to make this a successful Government Day. 31 Students strive to Grand Prize winners of the 1966 Magazine Sale; Joseph M crick a, Thomas Theodore Kopa, Cris Christenson, Robert Baldwin, and Brian Hackett.
