Creating a Yearbook Judith Jarivs, Business Manager of the Student, keeps all yearbook records and pays the bills. She has served on the staff for two of her high school years. Judith is responsible for keeping the yearbook supplied with all working ma- terials. Bethany Gossman has worked on the Student for the past two years. She is now serving as Co-editor of the school yearbook from PHN. Bethany has helped to plan and develop this year’s theme, introductory section, and division pages. She leads her staff efficiently. Elaine Minteer, PHH Co-editor of the school yearbook, works with her staff to plan and create a yearbook. Proof- reading and keeping track of the dupli- cate dummy are two of Elaine’s most important duties. She has worked on the yearbook for two of her high school years. 24

She has served as a reporter, a page editor, and a business manager before becoming an editor. The LIGHTHOUSE, Port Huron High School’s newspaper, has been published since 1922. For the past semester the paper has served both high schools. North- ern will establish a separate paper next year. Journalism classes cover school news each week for the TIMES HERALD in addition to publishing the LIGHTHOUSE. Each year the TIMES HERALD awards summer scholarships to college work- shops to outstanding staff members. Staff members who meet the member- ship requirements for Quill and Scroll, an international honorary journalism or- ganization, are elected annually. The LIGHTHOUSE is also actively af- filiated with the Michigan Interscholastic Press Association and The Columbia Scho- lastic Press Association. They strive to improve the quality of scholastic journal- ism through publications, workshops, and critical evaluations.
