extensive building program Members of the Port Huron Area Board of Education ING: William K. Gilbert, F. Bingham Fead, H. Ford are: SEATED: A.B. Carlisle, Vice-President; Richard A. Whipple and Dr. H.J. Hazledine. Cooley, President; and Mrs. Nicholas G. Douvas. STAND Board of Education To maintain the high standards of the Port Huron Area Schools, members of the Board of Education have spent many hours planning for the academic and physical growth of the school district. With renewed interest in the school curriculum, the Board has held meetings twice a month , one for the purpose of examing the instructional program of the district and the other for the usual school policy planning. Building projects have particularly occupied a great deal of the Board’s time throughout the year. A major project of interest is the construction of a new high school for the northern Port Huron area students. The school is expected to be completed by mid- November of this year. Its flexibility in design will permit team teaching or large and small group instruction. For each grade there will be grade centers, grade counselors, and grade deans. Thus, the two tho usand students in the school will benefit from the advantages of both large and small schools. Physical expansion in the school district is not limited only to high schools, however. Included in the extensive building activities throughout the district are the annex to the Harrison School, a new 17-room Sparlingville School, and an addition to the music facilities of the Chippewa Intermediate School.

Superintendent and Board confronted with Gerald C. Bradley Superintendent of Schools Gerald C. Bradley became Superintendent of the Port Huron Area Schools in July, 1963 after having served as Assistant Super- intendent for twelve years. Before coming to Port Huron, Mr. Bradley was superintendent of schools in Milan, Litchfield, and Reading, Michigan. He is also a former school teacher, principal, and coach. His exper- ience in the various areas of education serves him well in ful- filling his advisory duties and in executing Board policies. The rise in student population and the necessity of constantly improving the school district’s instructional program are his immediate concern as superin- tendent. Under construction is the new high school located on Krafft Road. The school will serve the needs of the students in the north- ern Port Huron Area.

Administrators provide Miss Florence C. Wiese, our faithful, patient, and kind assistant principal works closely with the administration, the faculty, and the students. Miss Wiese is responsible for all school records and the internal accounts of the school. She also correlates the work of the counselors and supervises attendance. Students first meet Miss Wiese at Freshmen Orientation, and later when they take the scholarship and aptitude tests. As Seniors they consult her to obtain scholar- ship and college information. The influence of her counseling, testing, and supervision will remain with students long after graduation. 4
