Seniors eye the future Principal Colen J. Sommerville watches proud Seniors as they march in to their last assembly. Joyce Reckker and Diane Burns find the benches along the hall windows, a gift from a former senior class, useful for studying a few moments before homeroom. At Port Huron High School every student has the opportunity to join organizations, cultivate interests, develop leadership qualities and ath- letic abilities, and make new friends. However, the primary purpose of any educational institution is to help its students achieve their goals through intellectual improvement. Students realize that in order to obtain gain- ful employment and a promising fu- ture education they must be serious about their studies. A serious stu- dent will find that high school gradu- ation is only the first of the many rewards he will receive for his labors.

Port Huron High School is successful in keeping with its old traditions even though it has been perplexed with double sessions for two years. This “split personality” does not hinder the progress of the student body. The Student Councils plan for more activi- ties and opportunities for every student. School dances, amusing pep assemblies, plays, concerts, and class pro- jects promote friendship and good will. Various athletic functions serve as a device for uniting both morning and afternoon students whether it be in actual participation or spirit. Many students gain a sense of service and belonging thr- ough numerous club organi- zations. The student body also brings honor to Port Huron High School by its good conduct in and out of school, its scho- lastic achievements, and its interest in community, na- tional, and international af- fairs. The time will soon be here when students in each session will be in separate schools, but the enjoyable experiences at Port Huron High School will always remain in the memories of every student. Thus, the future citizens of this community will be joined by a common bond. 9

with hope and determination Many people of the community, including Seniors from Port Huron High School, heard Governor George Romney explain his proposed tax reform at the McMorran Auditorium. As Mr. James Duncan listens, Senior Gary Smith asks Governor Romney a question concerning his tax program. Such experience will help Gary and his fellow classmates when their learning must be practi- cally applied. Friendly foreign exchange students Fernando Orozco of Uruguay, Elisabeth Olin of Finland, Bengt Bengtsson of Sweden, and Walburga Asse of Germany give Linda Lalley a geography lesson when they point out the location of their native countries.
