Port Huron High School Port Huron, Michigan Co-editors — Harold Muir and Linda Henry’ Business Manager — Patricia Oliver 1 Port Huron ' s new Tenth Street bridge is one of the finest of its type in the state. It adds much to the beauty and convenience of our city. OUR THANKS For their cooperation and helpful assistance in achieving our goals and meeting our deadlines, the Yearbook Staff of 1959 would like to give special recognition to the faculty, the Administration, the Student Body, and the business and professional men of Port Huron. Others whose help we would like to acknowledge are: Mr. Tomlinson, Miss Wiese, Mrs. Wellman, Mrs. Forbes, Mr. Cecil “Brick” Fowler, Mr. Frank Fulkerson, Miss MacLaren, and Mrs. Rantanen’s typing classes. 6 JAcSiudenid. . . . ... of Port Huron High School, do ordain and dedicate this yearbook of 1959 to Miss Marjorie Muhlitner. We £Uie and £ewat The Board of Education, elected by the qualified school electors of the School Dis- trict, has spent countless hours during the current school year in discussing school improvements. Foremost in the minds of the Board members has been the improve- ment of the school curriculum. Each member of the Board is intensely interested in the educational welfare of each pupil enrolled in our schools. The revision of the curriculum to give more opportunities for the academically talented student has been one of the major accomplishments. Although all has not been done that will eventually be accomplished, a good beginning has been made in this im- portant area of organization. The program of Special education, applying to the entire school system, has been expanded during the year. Growth in school population posed a problem of more school facilities. Members of the Board of Education were proud of the progress made in the Port Huron Public Schools and intend to study every possible method of continued improve- ments . Seated; Richard A. It will not be long before many of them will be cheerfully serving the patients at a hospital of their choice. S .eciat JAe and Wienie Qta Uoud. There are many exciting days in the life of a student in Port Huron High, but one of the most exciting days by far was the annual Home- coming. This year was no exception. Even though it rained, the spirits of the students were not dampened as they joined in the festivities of the day. Gaily decorated cars soon began the long parade downtown and back to the waiting judges. At kick off time, the stadi- um was filled with students cheering for victory. The Big Reds came on the field and a deafening roar came from the stands. Touchdown after touchdown, our team marched on to victory. The whole fim -filled day was a huge success and will remain in the memories of the students for many years to come. Douglas Koch, who was crownbearer, looked on approvingly. A bouquet of yellow roses and a kiss from Gerald Edson completed the crowning of Queen Linda Henry during halftime ceremonies of the homecoming game. Janet Wilson and attendants, Douglas Koch and Thomas Laughlin, observed the proceedings. Which princess would turn out to be the queen and reign at the Coro- nation Ball? This was the thought of every Port Huron High School student at sometime during the Homecoming Events . Two representatives from each class, dress- ed in formal attire, rode around the stadium in beautiful convertible cars and then ascended to the platform where the winner would be an- nounced.
