The June class presented something really fine in a Senior Play. Under the splendid direction of George Batka they produced Thorton Wilder’s “Our 1 own. The accompanying pictures were taken at rehearsal. We see here “Papa” Jack Gibbs, “Mother” Dot Dobratz, and “Daughter” Betty Adams in a characteristic family pose. “Dad” Don Schultz “reads the riot act” to Maynard North. In the center of the page we see the poster used to advertise the play in the main hall. LeRoy VanValkenburg and Dot Dobratz relax between acts. John Boukamp peddles his milk to Jean Anderson and in the bottom shot Betty and Maynard converse out of their up- stairs windows. Foot ball In ’41 the Port Huron High School Football team, better known as the “Big Reds,” started the season with a “bang” by taking Harbor Beach into camp 34 to 0. The Reds showed a powerful line and a fast backfield. The next opponent was a strong Pontiac High eleven. Pontiac, cashing in on several breaks, defeated us 26 to 0. Then our team traveled to Ferndale and there the “Reds” suffered a 1 5 to 0 defeat at the hands of Lincoln High. On October 10, in a quagmire of mud, we met our long traditional foes, the Mount Clemens High School. Al- though the Port Huron boys showed up well, Mount Clemens carried home the little brown jug to the tune of 8 to 0. A very tough foe was met when P. H. H. S. journeyed to the Prison City to meet the Jackson High eleven. Fail- ing to stop Jackson’s all-state halfback, we suffered our fourth straight defeat. Jackson 14, P. H. 0. Against Hazel Park the team showed up better as they held the Parkers to 19-19 tie. It was a see-saw affair with the lead changing hands several times. In our annual game with the Sarnia Collcgiates the lads finally broke into the win column as they gained an 8-0 victory in this international affair. On November 8, we wound up our regular season with a smashing 33 to 0 victory over the Grossc Pointe gridders. The boys showed strength in every department. As a traditional wind-up. the Seniors played the Underclassmen. This game ended in a scoreless tie. So with three wins, one tie, and four losses, Port Huron showed it was on its way back to the football heights.
