The year was filled with good times and victory but also of hardship. No one will every forget our first football victo- ry. our first dance, and our first student council. They all helped to make Port Huron Central have an identity all its own. We can say that we all played a part in establishing our school. Building a school is difficult, but only half as difficult as bringing all our loyalties to one main objective -PHC. We started out weak, but loyalties changed and we were well on the way to creating a great school. Different people pulled together and made the first year a terrific experience. Now with a foothol d, the years to come will be a definite part of our lives, but our first year will always bring special mem- ories. Dedication Our Warmest Z hanks The year is coming to an end. Many will agree that it was a great year for Central to begin. People have come together. It was difficult at first but adjustments were made along with new friends, teachers, and schedules. One of the many people who helped lift PHC on its feet was Mr. Pierce. He had a lot of help his first year, but many more problems. We feel, as all of the student body does, that Mr. Pierce has done an exceptional job. He isn’t one to sit continously behind a desk. Often during the day he is seen walking through the halls talking with students. And it’s great to see the principal letting out frustrations by playing the drums. Maybe it’s true what he says, “It saves a lot of students that way!” Therefore, we of the ’72 yearbook-staff would sin- cerely like to dedicate this first issue of the Centralian to Mr. William Pierce. The name doesn’t reveal or suggest any- thing about the nature of this truly different club. This organization deals with different phases of speech and under the superb leadership of Miss Tossey managed to place third at the city-county meet. Members are Arlene Murphy, Sue Wessel, and Patty Crison who placed third in the city -county meet. Miss Tossey displays her Forensic ability in class 43 Cultural Exchange Club Strives for Unity Several members of the Cultural Exchange Club pose in front of the library circulation desk. One of Port Huron Centrals newest and most popular club is the Cultural exchange club. This organization is an extention of an effort on the part of the student council and some concerned students to bridge the gap between the black and white students here at Central. It all started with rap sessions held after school under the direction of Mr. Rutkoffke. It developed into the present form when the students became interested and more teachers showed a desire to be involved. The current sponsors are Mr. Rutkofski, Mrs. Harris, Mr. Dickey, Mr. Nesbitt and Mr. Le- wandowski. Club members wait for the meeting to begin. 44 Autumn festival Devebpes Reeling of belonging MUD BATH-the prize for the Tug of War. All in all, everyone agreed it was a great way to start a tradition. The weather at the game was a little cold and we lost, but everyone had a good time. The band sat in the stands playing Christmas songs and trying to stay warm. At the dance, the music was provided by the Adams Street and members of the court had their pictures taken in front of an autumn backdrop. 45 Autu mn festival Boosts School Spirit The first Autumn Festival court includes Freshmen, Cheryl Simpson and Joan Maveety; Juniors, Barb Beattie and Mary Ureel; and Sophomores Linda McDonald and Debbie Ruiz. Julie Smith and Jackie Rucker look their parts over before they run through the scene d Hopeful students read various parts at tryouts held in February. In brief, the plot of PHC’s first all-school play centers around a physics instructor at the local high school. The latest fad in town is astrology and he tries to banish everyone’s feelings on it by pre- tending to be the famous astrologer Ptolemy. Every one of his predictions comes true and only convinces more people on its reality. The sub-plot involves Claudes’s love life. He is interested in Miss Johnson who is very unsure of her relationship with either the coach or Claude. Yvonne is the pretty student teacher who is Miss Johnson’s competition. The out-come of the play is heart warming and a beautiful way to start a tradition of fine school plays. 57 Centml ' m Cookie {Jar 58 i a R H.
