With nine lettermen reporting, positions were wide open. After two weeks' practice the Big Reds took to the field against the Norwalk Truckers in the first annual Round Robin at Sandusky. The quarter of play ended with Port Clinton on the short end of a 7 to U score. P. C. opened the regular season at Bowling Green. This was a hard fought, roughly played game which Port Clinton won in the final sec onds with a tie breaking game winning touch down pass from Belshaw to Blaskis The Reds breezed through the next two games with Tiffin Columbian and Gibsonburg winning by decisive scores On the night of October 7th the Redskins although keyed up for it were completely taken into camp by Sanduskys powerful Blue Streak eleven Port Clinton was never in e game and when the final whistle sounded the score read Sandusky 22 Port Clinton O The following week P C suffered its second and final defeat of the year when an underdog Oak Harbor team upset the favored P. C. squad 26 to l8. Elmore and Genoa offered little competition and were defeated by substantial margins. For the second year in a row the Lakeside game was played on a sloppy field. Conse- quently the P. C. scoring machine slipped a gear and we raked out a meager 12 to U victory. The season ended in a blaze of glory for Port Clinton as the team played its best game of the year and completely subdued a strong Bellevue aggregation 31 to 7 On November 23 the Herald came out with 1lS annual All County myth team Port Clinton placed six men on the first team These were Scott Franck back Bill Belshaw back Dale Taylor tackle Paul Lukac end Bill Fritz center Dick Bashore guard At the annual football banquet sponsored by the Downtown Coaches Bill Belshaw was named as honorary captain for the l949 season fs ,P 1 We 12 A.. ,X W fzefghitivs wwf is .g.,..ffH E51-sw A f 1 fe '53 9 M -nw ,. Words are never more true than when you say our P. C. H. S. band is good. ln the fall the band may be seen during 3rd period or on Tuesday or Thursday nights at the athletic field practicing for one of their halftime shows. Some themes for shows were A Pretty Girl ls Like A Melody , who gained weight to the tune of Too Fat Polka , a football player who rolled his eyes Cbass drumsl and smiled when an announcer read previous football scores which were favorable to P. C. fans, an Armistice Day program including fireworks shot from a cannon formation, and the pre Tag Day formation of a clef and music bars. Mem- bers of the trumpet section took the parts of notes on the staff and played the notes they represented. At the last game senior members were awarded miniature copies of the instru- ment they used. In turn they also presented Mr. Stanton with a suede jacket. Results of Tag Day were very favorable with collections total- ing 563381. With the close of the football season the band took over the auditorium and began practicing for a Christmas program, the spring concert, district, and state band competition with the hope of equaling last year's ll rating in state competition. Also slated for spring was the Ottawa County Band Festival. The dance band snapped into action to play for school dances and plays and the pep band played snappy marches during basketball games. Mr. Stanton started work with the numerous ensembles and solo artists in preparation for the spring solo and ensemble district and state competition. High points of the year were the trip to San- dusky to hear the U.S. Marine Band, and the Annual Band Banquet. Last of the band's numerous performances for the school year will be the Memorial Day Parade.
