Football Games Competitors: Annawan-Prophetstown-Hillsdale 1947 August 25-Football practice began early this year with sixteen men in new red jerseys on the line-up, all out to defend the Two-Rivers Championship which the school won last year. Walter Bull was the only regular left from last year's team, but Cbach Hoff said, nThe new recruits make up in enthusiasm what they lack in experience.N Squad members were: Walter Bull, Don Frits, Don Wuehle, Bob Carlson, Don Earhart, Don Hull,,Duane Smith, Russell Thompson, Don Tyler, Bob Wainwright, Earl Bull, Truman Langhofer, Lloyd Dailey, Bill Frits, Rodney Whitesides, and Chuck Williams, r September 19-The Red Devils met their first opponents of the season playing Annawan on our home field in the first Confer- ence game called at 4 p,m, with Pat Reedy of Moline refereeing. Port Byron won 20-13 giving our team their first Conference victory of the 1947 football season. September 26-Port Byron met Prophetstown in the second Confer- ence game on Prophetstown's field, The Port Byron Gridders were victorious-16 to 12-which put them at the top of the Two- Rivers Conference, Victory was doubly sweet as Prophetstown was previously undefeated. Port Byron came from behind to whip the Prophets, though unable to score in the first half while the hosts made a touchdown, The Red Devils scored eight points in each of the final quarters while Prophetstown was held to a lone touchdown in the final period October 3-Hillsdale upset Por formance that removed the Two the undefeated lists, but did game was non-Conference, The defensive game before a large first quarter.
