Sophomore Memoirs Nineteen Soohorores enrolled in high school for a second year on Sentember 2, We were still the smallest class on the campus but welcomed three nov members this year--Judy Barker, Marian Eiooer, and Robert Willems. Soon, however, our number was re- vithdrsvnl of Alta Hee Bassett who married and who withdrew to work at John Deere. At the end ester We also lost Beverly Whitesides who began ers hut gained Marilyn Anderson who enrolled duced due to the Robert Peterson of the first sem work st Dosaulni from Colvin Coolidge, Feline, Our enrollment was then seven- teen. On Sentemher 5, we elected our class offichrs: Prisident ------------------ -Judy Barker Vice-nresident -------------- Charles Williams Secretary-Treasurer ------- --Hildred Boiling Student Council members ----- Nancy Skelton Herbert Wedsager Soonsor --------------------- Coach Hoff Sootembor l2 was the traditional Freshmen initiation day, and we Soohomoros gave the little green Froshies the works. Such a sight! Boys in dresses, high hzels, ribbons and hose, girls in overalls, boots, hair in braids, lipstick ond rouge smeared on focos, making then look like clowns all day. But this wash' enough. During the seventh period the Freshren were all lined, un in from of the student boyd in the gym. Such fun! The boys went wild and of course the Freshmen went with them-Cto the' showersl. That night we soonsored on all-school party in honor of our Hgreen friends,n Refreshments were ice cream and pop. Dancing was the main event of the evening. In athletics, our class was renrosented by Chuck Nilliams, Bud Thonnson, Don Hull, and Stanley Hollister., Bob Willems was elected Vsnager. The Sonhomore class feels thot it is e dis- tinct honor to have three of our class members os cheerleaders and in wddition to have had five boys who narticiootcd in the yeor's shorts. Joan Zwolanek, Midge Reiling, end Nancy Skelton heloed to cheer our team on to victory. In November a class theator oorty was held, We not at the Silk Tonner, all oiled into cnrs driven by Coach Hoff, Bob Willems, and Bud Thomnson, and went to East Feline to see HGun Fightersn at the Strand in East Moline. After the show all returned to the Silk Tonner for refreshments. In December, the class tractor and sleigh and freshments of hot dogs had o sleigh ride. We used Hollister's afterward Lrs. Hollister served us re- ond cokes. t
