1947-School Enrollment-1948 One of the largest Freshman classes to ever enroll in the Commun- ity High School entered this year on September 2, following re- gistration on September l. Of the thirty-five, fifteen came from Port Byron Grade School, two from Coe, two from Sycamore, one from Hampton, two from Rose Hill, two from Pleasant Bluff, seven from Rapids City, and one from California. At the end of the first week, however, Killian Nickerson and Glenn Martin withdrew reducing Freshmen ranks to thirty-three. Later, Roger Allison and Len Heward withdrew reducing the number to thirty-one. Har- land Shannon entered from Moline, Jack Falls from Thomson, and Lyle Peterson from Geneseo, raising Freshmen enrollment to thir- ty-four. On April l, Lyle returned to Geneseo, leaving thirty- three. September Sophomore enrollment was nineteen but the withdrawal of Alta Mae Bassett, Robert Peterson, and Beverly Whitesides, re- duced the ranks to sixteen. Then in February Marilyn Anderson enrolled from Moline and raised the number of Sophomores to se- venteen. Junior enrollment on September l was twenty-seven but the with- drawal of Bill Frits and Earl Talbot early in the year and Roger Lund in March left enrollment figures at twenty-five. With the entrance of Marty Shannon from Moline, Junior class enrollment was raised to twenty-six. Then in May, Darlene Frits withdrew, leaving a tltal enrollment of twenty-five. On September l, the Senior class numbered twenty-two, but Gleda Howard withdrew to enter East Moline High and Dolores Schafer was married, reducing Senior enrollment to twenty. In April, Bailey Knorr enlisted in the Army leaving nineteen.
