V 'ri' V-l'l , me ln, - '- -'ai ff- 591 ,..- ' ' f ----+.lll.-,.g-.- Second Annual Athletic Banquet On March 9, our Association aponsored the second annual Athlet- ic Banquet honoring our high school football and basketball squads and their coach, Charles L. Hoff. Tables were set in the gym which was decorated in red and white, long crepe paper streamers forming a canopy under which the tables were placed. World War II Mothers prepared and served a three-course dinner to Association members and guests. Colorful Red Devil place cards directed each guest to his place and artistic red book- lets gave a resume' of the year's athletic activities. Coach Hoff acted as toast master. Beverly Mose, president of the GAA, welcomed the team and their guests. Reverend Cedric Powell led in group singing. At the conclusion of the dinner Coach Hoff introduced Morey Stephenson, Director of the Moline Y,M.C.A. who gave the ad- dress of the evening. Then, Rodney Whitesides and Walter Bull, Co-captains of the football squad, presented Coach Hoff with the Two-Rivers trophy which their team won for the second consecutive year. He in turn presented it to Principal C. S. Hall, who accepted it on behalf of the school. During the 1947 football season, the six-man team won five out of the seven-competitive games they played with Annawan, Prophetstown, Hillsdale, Tampico, Cordova, and Orion, and hold for the second consecutive year the undis- puted title of UConference Champions.u Then Donald Earhart,and Bailey Knorr, Co-captains of the Red Devil basketball team, presented Coach with the third place trophy their team won in competition with Reynolds and Cordova in the County Tournament at Reynolds. He accepted it on behalf of the school. Athletic awards were presented by Coach Hoff to the following members of the football squad: Rodney Whitesides, Walter Bull, Donald Earhart, Donald Frits, Earl Bull, Donald Hull, Chuck Williams, Donald Wuehle, Bob Carlson, Bob Wainwright, Lloyd Dailey, Truman Langnofer, Duane Smith, Russell Thompson, Don Tyler. Awards were also presented to the following members of the bas- ketball team: Donald Earhart, Bailey Knorr, Roger Lund, Rodney Whitesides, Don Luehle, Bob Carlson, Marty Shannon, Harland Shannon Bud Thompson, Donald Hull, Don Tyler, Stanly Hollister Bill Gilbert, Richard Belgrave, Theodore Vickroy, and Bob Willems, Manager. In recognition of unusual ability and faithfulness in cheer leading throughout the season, Coach Hoff presented letters to Joan Zwolanek, Sue Lamb, Nancy Skelton, and Midge Railing.
